Best (?) movie kisses

To help promote the new chocolate/caramel version of its famous Kiss,
Hershey Foods Corp. has unveiled its list of Hollywood's greatest
on-screen lip-locks. The announcement was made atop the Empire State
Building, a popular place for romantic embraces. In partnership with Us
Weekly magazine and leading movie houses, Hershey selected the Rhett
Butler (Clark Gable)/Scarlett O'Hara (Vivian Leigh) kiss in "Gone with
the Wind" as the best yet. The top 10 kisses and the movies (with year
of release) in which they occurred:

1. Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh, "Gone With the Wind" (1939)
2. Omar Sharif and Julie Christie, "Doctor Zhivago" (1965)
3. Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, "Casablanca" (1942)
4. Humphrey Bogart and Audrey Hepburn, "Sabrina" (1954)
5. Rock Hudson and Doris Day, "Pillow Talk" (1959)
6. Molly Ringwald and Michael Schoeffling, "Sixteen Candles" (1984)
7. Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift, "A Place in the Sun" (1951)
8. Judd Nelson and Molly Ringwald, "Breakfast Club" (1985)
9. Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds, "Singing in the Rain" (1952)
10. Winona Ryder and Ethan Hawke, "Reality Bites" (1994)

Okay, I'll admit that "Gone With the Wind," "Casablanca," and "A Place in the Sun" might be monumental kisses, but how could they ignore one of the best, most erotic kisses of all time?

Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman in NOTORIOUS

I'm sure there are others that we can come up with that would be better than most of the others on the list. That cheek-peck that Princess Leia gives Luke just before they swing across the chasm, for instance.

What are your favorite screen lip locks?

Re: Best (?) movie kisses

How the hell could they overlook Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr in From Here To Eternity? Three forgettable brat pack flicks make the list but From Here To Eternity doesn't?

I'd also save a spot for Henry Fonda and Kate Hepburn "sucking face" in On Golden Pond.

And does Michael Corleone kissing his brother Fredo count?

Re: Best (?) movie kisses

The first kiss by Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly in Hitchcock’s Rear Window lasts only a few seconds but FWIW I think that it’s one of the best few seconds ever captured on film.

My husband will be glad to know that Molly Ringwald made the list twice. Now I just have to decide whether I'll tell him or not.

Re: Best (?) movie kisses

Absolutely, YES to the two Jimmy Stewart kisses! That scene in IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE has to be one of the most romantic/erotic love scenes ever filmed.

While the FROM HERE TO ETERNITY surf-clench is a famous iconographic image, I was never very moved by it. Maybe it was Deborah Kerr with blonde hair--she always felt too cooly removed for me to be fully engaged with the character.

Re: Best (?) movie kisses

Overlooking the kiss in Notorious is inexplicable. Not only is it romantic, it helps the characters to recognize their attraction for each other. And it builds suspense. And Hitchcock's having Bergman and Grant kiss and then talk and then kiss and then talk not only heightens both the romantic and nervous tension, it was a clever way of getting around the stupid studio rule that characters could kiss for no more than a few seconds.

That's a lot to get out of just one kiss.

Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, The Princess Bride.

"Since the invention of the kiss there have been five kisses that were rated the most passionate, the most pure. This one left them all behind. The End."

Re: Best (?) movie kisses

I'm getting so old. I actually think it is more erotic when people don't kiss. But, I did find the upside down kiss of the half-unmasked Spiderman interesting.
