| | So, who has seen Potter 3? | | I caught it today with Kalynda and a friend and must say it's my favorite of them.
No spoilers yet until more people weigh in. |

| | Re: So, who has seen Potter 3? | | As the friend who went with Joubert and Kaly, I must agree. These seem to be getting better and better... not the usual with sequels in general. Darn good movie, that was! Darker, yes, but it kept a whimsical side as well. |

I was planning to take the wee one to a movie tomorrow, he wants to see Shrek 2, but now I'm not sure! Maybe we should see Potter instead. Decisions, decisions.

I've already read all the spoilers I can get my hands, er, eyes on.
As to the darkness, well, it's only natural considering that each book is getting progressively darker.

| | Re: So, who has seen Potter 3? | | Talking about grading, I was shocked at how many kids were at the 1:10 p.m. Friday show. I guess parents allowed their kids to cut early to bring them there. I know it's a pop culture icon, but that blew me away. |

| | Re: So, who has seen Potter 3? | | George, you sure they couldn't already be out of school? School's out in my state.
Anyway, we did go see it today. Loved it! I think I still like the first two better - this one, I feel, left out too many important bits and if I hadn't read the book I'd be confused about a couple of things.
And just WHAT was up with all the shrunken heads?! Pardon the stereotyping, but I think of them as more "voodoo" type items, certainly not general "wizarding" world items (if such a thing actually existed) nor do I associate them with Mexican culture.

No, school is not out here for several weeks. Trust me, my wife is counting the days down with horror in her eyes. |

The babester would not like it yet, I am sure...but, if it's as good as you are claiming, it will be in my collection!

Have those kids grown, or what? It was scary.

| | Re: So, who has seen Potter 3? | | Just got back from seeing it (our babysitting coop is back up!). Not nearly as dark as I'd expected from all the hype. Reasonably enjoyable.
And, yeah, they sure have grown. |

| | Re: So, who has seen Potter 3? | | 15 year olds!
My hubby and I saw HP and brought my daughter and a friend (who, of course, hung out in a different part of the theater, because going to the movie with your parents is just not done...)
They said there were so many occasions where HP and Hermione could have gotten romantic and didn't...they just didn't understand it at all.
They are sure, however, that there will be romance in the sequel, because at that point they will certainly be old enough to get romantic.
I loved the movie, although as the trio moves into their teen years, they are not quite as cute as when they were kids. That goes double for Malfoy, who was never nice in the first place.
(When my husband asked them who they thought was cuter, HP or Ron, they said--"the twins.") |

| | Re: So, who has seen Potter 3? | | Yeah, the twins definitely have a cute factor going on.
I did think the moments between Hermione and Ron were pretty cute--the ones where they caught themselves in romantic moments and then pulled back--almost as if they weren't sure what to do with it.

| | Re: So, who has seen Potter 3? | | I loved the scene where Harry rides the griffin puff or whatever. Wheee! I thought they did a good job casting Cyrius (sp?). He looked pretty weasely but had the ability to turn into a suave, heroic, prince type. My girls really enjoyed it. Fun.

Remember they got into this thing as 10 and 11 year old kids to begin with. They're only around 15 now. This is a MAJOR committment and such a huge chunk of their young lives. I really couldn't blame any of them if they got tired of the whole thing and chucked it.
Not that it would seem right to see someone else in these roles! But I think it's whole different kettle of fish between adults agreeing to do all 7, and these very young kids.

| | Re: So, who has seen Potter 3? | | Oh, here's a bit of funny trivia - Rupert Grint (Ron) became such good friends with two of the rats that played Scabbers, that he asked to take them home instead of sending them back to the London Zoo - and they let him!

So, what do y'all think of the new Dumbledore?

| | Re: So, who has seen Potter 3? | | Awhile ago I saw an interview with the kids doing the three roles. The studio hadn't made them a steady offer or commitment, so I can certainly understand the actors not being willing to give a firm commitment either. It is a two-way street. There were also the factors of parents. They're still young enough they have to get their parents' permission to play the part. There may be other factors that they're trying to protect the kids from.
I liked the new Dumbledore (not as much as the old one, but hey, death is a pretty darn good excuse).
I was also rather fond of Emma Thompson. I loaned my book out, though, so I can't look this up. Did they give her a line from Book 4? I thought the prediction she made was actually a book 4 event. Am I misremembering?

| | Re: So, who has seen Potter 3? | | I *liked* the new Dumbledore well enough, but I didn't care for the beard change. (The tied thingy around his neck.) I guess I'm more forgiving of the personality differences since, like you say, death is a pretty good excuse for not continuing the role!
I missed Trelawney's prophecy because Erin had to go to the bathroom. But yes, it was in book 3. It was during final exams, and Harry was all alone with her - he had just finished, and was about to leave when she went all weird and prophecied that the Dark Lord's servant would set out to return to him before midnight. This was prophecying that Wormtail/Peter Pettigrew/Scabbers would run off to go find Voldemort.
