Are you decorating a room? Building a library?
Designing a theater or film set?

Strand Book Store should be your first and last stop. We assemble decorator collections in any subject, including art, biography, reference, law, music, theater and classic literature. We've put together libraries for hundreds of clients, including the Plaza Hotel, Steven Spielberg, and Polo Ralph Lauren. Working with you, we will custom design a library that is sure to be a perfect match for any home or office space, one that will please the eye and satisfy the mind.

Decorator collections?

Shelves full of unread books. I know I'd sure be impressed if I were visiting a home whose owner bought the books but wasn't familiar with any of them. Now I've heard of everything.

Re: Books by the foot???

I'm not surprised. But I feel very sorry for anyone who actually uses this service. They're missing out on discovering books for themselves.

Re: Books by the foot???

When I was redoing the library at Chateau Maine, I ordered a hundred and seventy-five shelf feet of books in lovely shades of blue and aquamarine. The effect is quite striking. I got the idea from Babs Streisand; however, I believe she used earth tones for a more subdued effect.

Re: Books by the foot???

I can see the need for a play or movie, but for someone's home? Blech.

Wasn't there someplace that sold just the facade of books to decorate with. I mean, if you're not going to read them, why not just buy fake bindings.

Re: Books by the foot???

Somebody here posted a bookcase that features spines of fake books - but it is actually a bookcase to put real books in. It wasn't too long ago that it was posted.

Someday when I inherit a bazillion dollars I would love to own sets of books that I love, bound in similar bindings. Like the "library edition" sets of famous books like Agatha Christie, etc. My mom for years was a member of the Louis L'amour book club, and has just about every book he ever published, all in the same bindings. I just love the look - but I wouldn't just buy a bunch of books for their looks. It would have to be books that I already love for themselves.

Re: Books by the foot???

I actually have a few feet of old Southwest Reporters -- bound volumes of legal cases -- that I got pretty much for free; they're (potentially) useful in decorating. But I would never ever read them; no one would.

Re: Books by the foot???

No, wait, I think I could order what I like to read, and also have the books color coordinated. How about if I have the money to do that, and then I go to used book stores and Amazon, buy the books I want, and keep the change? Anybody want to bankroll me?
