| | Yeah, he’s often annoying and sometimes hates stuff that I love and loves stuff that I hate but the man sure can write: Ebert on The Village |

| | Re: Why I like Roger Ebert | | You hardly ever hear the word "gambol."
Orwell uses it something like 5 times in "Animal Farm" and it shows up in "1984" as well.
I'm not suggesting this as a metric, just finding it interesting. |

| | Re: Why I like Roger Ebert | | Nice (hatchet) job, but I think the master of the panned review remains Rex Reed.
(And if you didn't have the chance to read Gene Siskel's reviews, you really missed something. Roger Ebert was better at turning a phrase but Gene Siskel knew movies.)
Ebert missed one point. Of course The Village sucks because it stars William Hurt. Has there ever been a more wooden, one-dimensional and predictable movie star? Hurt makes Steven Segal seem deep, for the love of God. The man has all the range of a tuning fork and almost as much emotion.

Poor Night (back to the previous discussion)...he had such phenomenal success with the Sixth Sense (which was a near perfect film, IMHO ), he's just been blasted ever since. I was looking forward to seeing The Village (they showed a sneak clip on TV last week sometime), but after reading all the reviews panning it, I guess I'll probably skip.

Please rent Changing Lanes. | Am confused. William Hurt wasn't in Changing Lanes. I just checked IMDB. IMDB never lies.

| | Re: Why I like Roger Ebert | | Netflix rocks.
But my coworkers were intrigued and went to see this film last night. I will not reveal anything in the film, but I did ask them to describe the whole film to me.
Ebert was conservative in his criticism.
But, apparently, the acting and cinematography were decent. If the story sucks, though, what is the point?
I almost invariably see this type of film. But after hearing it described, I have about as much desire to see it as I have to watch "Battlefield Earth" again.

Crazy kids. Who can figure 'em. Luckily, Tuesday night is $4.00 movie night.
