| | Barnes and Noble Reading Groups | | Just got an e-mail from B&N about new author led book discussions. I love the idea!
I enrolled for the discussion of "My Sister's Keeper" by Jodi Picoult. I really enjoy her writing and recently wrote an epinion on this book. I wish I had time to read the Alice Hoffman book as well.
This is a new program - thought some of you might be interested too. I'll let you know what I think once it starts.
Wormie - now fantasizing about authors joining us for our EA Book Club discussions! |

| | Re: Barnes and Noble Reading Groups | | B&N does a great job with their university and more and more places are trying to appeal to book club members. It's a great market for an industry that has been struggling.
Do you want to try to get authors to join us for EA book club discussions? I could think of a few that we might be able to get. I could beg and plead for the following: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...glance&s=books http://www.bookhelpweb.com/authors/zettel/zettel.htm http://www.bookhelpweb.com/authors/piziks/piziks.htm

| | Re: Barnes and Noble Reading Groups | | Bridgette, do you think they might?
We'd first have to make sure there is enough interest here so it's not embarrasing. That would be amazing. I'm not a sci-fi fan, but I know we have a lot of die hard fantasy readers here, and a book discussion with an author would be AMAZING!!! in my humble opinion anyway. |

I'd love to read and discuss that first book you have listed with the author. Looks very interesting.

| | Re: Barnes and Noble Reading Groups | | I can't promise anything, but I might be able to wheedle participation.
Steven Harper/Pizik's wife was the best man at our wedding.
Sarah Zettel I know from college and we've kept in occasional touch. (I really, really like her books. They're intelligent science fiction and fantasy.)
Jean Trounstine is someone I interviewed for a feature once. She's the one that would be the most difficult to get as I have no personal connections, but I could sound her out to see whether she would be interested.

| | Re: Barnes and Noble Reading Groups | | Here is another possibility, though her book is less general interest and more specific reference/type.
On the other hand, if she were willing to do it, she is hilarious and would make a great person to have in a discussion: http://www.bookhelpweb.com/authors/lewisp/lewis.htm
Her husband has frequently directed my husband (he's the artistic director of the Michigan Shakespeare Festival). She played Lady Macbeth a few years ago and filled in for Mistress Ford this summer when that actress lost her voice.

| | Re: Barnes and Noble Reading Groups | | The reading group started this week, and I've just been reading and posting there. I think it's interesting, and I'm looking forwards to seeing how it pans out.
They basicaly suggest a reading schedule - 4 weeks, each week is a section of the book. There are 3-4 broad discussion questions for each section, and members ask questions and post comments. There is a moderator and the author.
I like it! | | |
