| | Phoenixx selected Grimms Tales for Young and Old for our April discussion.
I was buying the Feb book online and saw a copy of Grimms, so I bought it now as well. I didn't realize that it was the size of a cinder block! Leslie - I think that 626 pages might be a bit much for all of us to read and discuss in one month. I was wondering if perhaps you could pick several of your favorites for our discussion. That way everyone can read and discuss those and then people can read the others at their leisure. I want to read it, but I know that I won't get it done in a month.
What do you think?
Everyone - don't forget:
Margo selected Life of Pi for Feb.
Naomi will select for March
Katherine will select for April
and then Grimms Tales for May. |

| | Re May Book Club - Phoenixx | | Overstock.com had both books new at good prices. I ended up getting used copies at Ebay.
The Grimms is in decent condition. I haven't received Life of Pi yet.
I got Stone Diaries and the Nabakov book used on Ebay. |

| | Re May Book Club - Phoenixx | | Actually my Master Plan was to have people read a selection of five or six stories and then discuss them. So many of the stories are familiar to us in the sanitized version (a la Disney - shudder) that I figured it would lead to agreat discussion of how differently we view children, and what they need to hear these days versus "back then", etc. The five or six stories would of course be up to each person. That way, if everyone reads something a little different, later on others can go back to your stories and see what drew you to them, etc. |

| | Re May Book Club - Phoenixx | | Ah - in that case, I have a Grimm's book, but it's not this one. So I suppose I could just pick some from it, right?

| | Re May Book Club - Phoenixx | | Actually, the editor(s) of that edition of the book is the reason I picked it - they are the most true to the original stories. Many other Grimm editions have been sanitized for American consumption, leaving out some of the elements of each story hat are truly key. If the editor is the same, then yes, if not, then it really isn't the same book. |

| | Re May Book Club - Phoenixx | | Leslie - I haven't read it yet - and I like the idea of us reading what we want and discussing.
Perhaps you can select your favorite as required reading so that we have a least one common story to discuss, and then everyone can select the other stories that they want to read and discuss. I'm guessing that reading each others posts will inspire many of us to read more tales! | | |
