A concert review for Lynn!

I was listening to the radio on my drive to work, and people were calling in to discuss various things.
One guy had just seen a concert featuring Styx and Kansas and was giving his review. He said that Styx was great, but that Kansas stunk. Said the singer couldn't kit a note till the final encore. Went on and on about how bad they were. Then gave his final comment...

Ouch.

Wonder if they gave out free 1977 calendars to the first 500 people at that show.

I saw Styx once upon a time, in a fog, long, long ago.

Preferred Kansas over Boston (Boston sounded all the same, IMO.)

Hey, I've seen that show. I probably wouldn't see Kansas again, but Styx was, well, nostalgic.

Your old music cannot sustain you through a life, not if you're someone who listens to music every day, at every opportunity. You need input, because pop music is about freshness, about Nelly Furtado and the maddeningly memorable fourth track on a first album by a band you saw on a late-night TV show. And no, that fourth track is not as good as anything on Pet Sounds or Blonde on Blonde or What's Going On, but when was the last time you played Pet Sounds? - Songbook by Nick Hornby

I saw Styx with "the girls" in high school. Paradise theater. It was a good show.
Saw them about 2 years ago - the race track has free concerts - its fun! They were good, but there is something about aging rockers....

Re A concert review for Lynn!

Music reviews are often hard for me to write because I know what I sound like. Even with aging rockers, I can see Tommy Shaw handing me a guitar and saying, "There's 10,000 people out there and 14 songs in the set. You sing lead on 12 of them and have at least 30 extended leads. Here, zip up your pleather pants and go get 'em."

I do the same thing with reviewing music releases. Having written several dozen (complete orchestration), I know it's awfully hard to write a song. Having performed live, I know that ain't no picnic either. The ones who can do all that generally get a bye in my book unless they try stuff that they shouldn't be doing -- like going for notes they hit 30 years ago but can't now.

George, I knew that you were a music guy, but I didn't know that you performed! How cool!

Truth be told - I have a thing for aging rockers. The youngsters these days (with notable exceptions) scream or do rap. I love classic rock. My favorites are old - like me.

George hasn't been on a stage in 20 years and has no intention of ever setting foot on one again. If you're unlucky enough to live next door, you might hear me plunking or pounding away late one night, but that's about it.

You know, it's the aging thing...
