| | It's a Law & Order Marathon! | | ....of sorts. 12 episodes of one of the most addicting TV shows ever, Law & Order are on A & E tomorrow (Labor Day). Check out the Episode Guide.
It's a "sort of" marathon, because they are sticking one of their new shows 100 Centre Street (which I haven't had time to watch) and an episode of Biography in the midst of it.
I came late to Law and Order . It was on for seven years before I caught on, but when I did, I was able to use A & E to help me catch up.
I just love that show.
My favorite lawyer, hands down, is Sam Waterson. Jerry Orbach is my favorite cop. (Angie Harmon gets on my last nerve, as does the new cop who replaced Benjamin Bratt.)
How about you guys? Fans in the midst?
Andrea

| | It's the best thing on TV since the unfortunate demise of Twin Peaks and it's about the only series I'll regularly endure commercials for. Clever premise, ripped-from-the-headlines events, smart writing, intelligent acting. It's got everything good drama--big screen or little--requires.
I agree with you on Orbach (good) and the new (bad) cop Jesse L. Martin, but I have to disagree with Ms. Harmon. She's alluring in an Ali McGraw sort of way. But that's just the hubba-hubba husband in me talking... |

| | The best thing about L&O from my perspective is that they consistently get the law right. This is almost never the case in TV lawyer shows; they could care less what the law really is. Example: A defense lawyer tries to bring in some cutting-edge evidence about psychological theories. From the comfort of my couch, I say, "They can't do that, Frye v. U.S. prohibits it, there's no scientific consensus," and durned if McCoy doesn't make that same argument, and win.
L&O is fabulous; they always have great actors in the primary roles and are always engrossing. (Some more so than others, I am still upset that Angie Harmon went and married that idiot Giants cornerback.) The only recent cops-and-robbers show that even comes close was Barry Levinson's Homicide, which had better actors and scripts but unfortunately has a continuing soap-opera format; I find that it is all but unwatchable in reruns.
The only other show on now that I will watch with any regularity is Alton Brown's show on the Food Network, which I unreservedly recommend to anyone.

I'm not a lawyer, nor do I play one on TV, but Law and Order has ruined me for some of the more sloppily written legal thriller type books. I was yelling at Richard North Patterson (the author) just yesterday.
More precisely, I was yelling at one of his books --- "There is no way any judge is going to let that evidence get into court! Puhleeeze!" I imagined McCoy needing to argue about 4 seconds to get it supressed.
I like Patterson, but some of his books cut some rather obvious corners to advance the plot, leastways, it seems so to a McCoy fan like myself.
Interesting, BTW, that the men like Angie so much. Don thinks she's all that and a bag of chips. I don't get it. Her voice grates.

who figures it is probably not the voice that is the attraction point

No, no, it is the Voice...at least for me. I love a good rasp. |

| | There is a rasp and a drawl. You don't get that very often. And she is extraordinarly confident and composed. And that hair, those cascading raven locks. Whoa momma.

| | This is my favorite show. I liked Chris Noth. I love Jerry Orbach & he is beginning to wear off on the new cop. The new DA is great, also. I got tired of the Adam Shiff politico character.

| | I became hooked on the show years ago when the case involved several college kids who were obviously guilty of rape. But they were found not guilty.
I was outraged, almost like it had actually happened. Any show that can provoke that kind of response is worth watching.
And now my faith in Mr. Wolf and his franchise is justified. Jamey Sheridan (Chicago Hope, Stephen King's The Stand and the criminally underappreciated John Sayles-produced Shannon's Deal) is going to be on the new version. Between his return to TV and the shows that will feature James Cromwell and Kyle Secor, this is shaping up to be a terrific season for new shows with attractive men.
Of course, I thought that last season and David Strathairn's show only lasted a few episodes. And they put poor Edward Hermann in jail and forgot about him on The Practice. Now that I think of it, between those injustices and Mrs. Landingham's death, perhaps I should just stop watching TV altogether. |

| | And I missed it! Had the flu! But I do catch an L&O rerun a few times a week on A&E.
My favorite ADA was Jill Hennessey, and I'm looking forward to her new series, where she plays a medical examiner. |

Am also excited about the new Law and Order, Criminal Intent. Hoping to like a bit more than SVU, which isn't bad, but not quite "it".
