August Wilson 1945-2005

NEW YORK - Playwright August Wilson, whose epic 10-play cycle chronicling the black experience in 20th-century America included such landmark dramas as “Fences” and “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” died Sunday of liver cancer, a family spokeswoman said. He was 60.

For what its worth, I think Wilson was the best American writer of the last 50 years.

Godspeed.

Re August Wilson 1945-2005

Oof. I'm sorry to hear that.

I am happy that he managed to finish his cycle this year with "Radio Golf" and didn't leave us with an unfinished masterpiece, but one that we'll always have.

Re August Wilson 1945-2005

Quote from him in an article reporting that he had announced he was dying:

Quote:
“It’s not like poker, you can’t throw your hand in,” Wilson told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in a story published Friday. “I’ve lived a blessed life. I’m ready.”
