| | Hello. I'm working on a study for one of my last classes at ASU (I graduate in December...YEAH!) and I need to get a lot of data about words created by J.K. Rowling in her Harry Potter series. You don't have to have read the books or seen the movies (in fact I need a large portion of the surveys to come from those who haven't). If anyone wouldn't mind posting the simple survey answers....I'd really appreciate it!
Thanks!
INSTRUCTIONS:
Create one short sentence for each of the following words:
muggle
dementor
azkaban
hogwarts
slytherin
jinx
patronus
quidditch
gringott's
diagon alley
If you could list your age, gender, and the # of Harry Potter books/movies you've read/seen that would also be GREAT!
Thanks!

| | I used to live near Orange and Terrace and made a fair amount of beer money proofing English papers for your fine school. I can dig up an old rate card if you'd like. |

| | I would love to help you, but honestly, I don't think I could possibly write one short sentence using all of those words. Perhaps a lengthy paragraph, but certainly not one short sentence.
Age - 42 - not that its any of your business, Youngster
gender - female (never ask a woman her age!)
saw 2 of the movies
have not read any of the books.
Good luck with your project. |

| | Funny. Not one short sentence using all of those words. One short sentence for each of the words. Whoops. Not very clear there! And an English major to boot! Sorry about that! |

I do some editing myself...although I tend to edit for non-students and I try to pay my mortgage. Do you miss the paper editing days? |

| | Ah - well one short sentence for each of the words would be much easier.
I have no idea what most of them are supposed to mean, but I could fumble through. Just not right now - its been a long fun day, and I'm pooped. I'll try and help tomorrow, but if you ask what I weigh - you can forget about it! |

I tried to show him how to do some magic, but he's a hopeless muggle.
dementor - no idea
azkaban - couldn't tell ya
hogwarts - I want to get a school jacket with the Hogwarts mascot on the back.
slytherin - who knows
jinx - (This word's been around forever, not a Rowling creation although she may have changed the meaning.) I won't talk about what I plan to do because I'm afraid I'll jinx myself.
quidditch - I can't go shopping, I have to watch the quidditch game this afternoon.
gringott's - somebody owns something (" 's ") but I don't know who gringott is...
diagon alley - somewhere over the rainbow for all I know
Hope this helps.

| | Female, 35. Read all books (more than once), seen movies #1 and #2.
A Muggle is a non-magical person.
I wouldn't want to meet a dementor in a dark alley.
Azkaban is the equivalent of a maximum-security prison for wizards.
The Hogwarts Express should be released as a Brio train.
A Slytherin is probably the most evil example of a Hogwarts student.
An improperly used jinx can often harm the jinxer.
My Patronus looks like Ronde and Tiki Barber.
Quidditch is a game similar to rugby mixed with basketball and played on brooms.
Gringott's cannot be broken into easily.
Diagon Alley is the wizard's Mall of America. |

read all of the books but fell asleep the three times I've attempted to watch the movies (never watched more than twenty minutes)
muggle -- I was born to muggle parents.
dementor -- The dementors sucked all the happiness from the room.
azkaban -- The evil one was sentenced to life in Azkaban.
hogwarts -- Harry Potter goes to Hogwarts School.
slytherin -- Harry could have been a slytherin, but his heart was too pure.
jinx -- If you don't stop casting these horrible spells on me, I'll jinx you!
patronus -- If I had a patronus, it would probably be a butterfly.
quidditch -- I don't know how to ride a broomstick, so I guess quidditch playing is out for me.
gringott's -- I went to Gringott's to make a deposit.
diagon alley -- There are many interesting shops in Diagon Alley. | | |
