And what Naomi said about that Tracy Adkins song. I put on my Willie CDs when things get that bad.

The one NYC country station disappeared about three years ago and went Spanish--even though there were already several Spanish music stations in the area.

There is, however, a Hudson Valley country station which I listen to a lot when the music is on. Whenever the morning DJ opens his ultra-conservative, disrespectful mouth, I change the station.

The really funny thing is NYC was the host of the Country Music Awards a couple months ago. NYTimes had it in their Entertainment - 2005 In Review section. The entry was something like:

"In 2005, the Country Music Awards were held in Madison Square Garden. New York City shrugged."

I was walking into Penn Station (aka the basement of MSG) the night of the awards. They had barricades on the sidewalk, there were limos pulling up, there were officious young people with headphone walkie-talkies coordinating things and stuff. Commuters were barely glancing at all the fuss as they headed for their trains. No crowds were gathering by the barricades, no one was standing by the limos waiting with bated cameras to see who was coming out...

Coming from NY/NJ - I just never "got" the country music thing. There are some songs that I like, but overall.....not my thing. Brian listens to some - Bluegrass is nice. But if I'm somewhere where they have the country station playing, I generally want to leave fast. Outside NY country music is BIG stuff!

I couldn't tell you what was released this year. I rarely listen to the radio except for NPR.

That would be me. I did recognize a name or two though.

Depends on what you like listening to. G has me listening to KTRU a lot if you like college/alternative radio.

Also, our local alternative station streams (wber.monroe.edu). I particularly love New Wave Wednesdays... all from my black-lipstick heydey from (I think) 7 to 9 EST.

Dallas has a Jack station. I listened to it a lot at first, but then they started to repeat random songs too often (How much airplay does Ace of Base really deserve?). They are one of my radio buttons.

I really like Because of You - haven't gotten sick of it yet. I like the Photograph song because I think it's an interesting idea for a song. My guilty pleasure is probably Gold-Digger. Can't stand My Humps - just a disgusting song with no point whatsoever. I wish it would just disappear.
