| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | I used the phone numbers first, and got busy and something else like "Let's talk. Dial 1-800...") So my daughter offered to text for me. I asked her if she was sure it went through and she thought it did. My other daughter (who voted for Taylor) said she didn't think hers went through. On a good note for Taylor fans, like you, maybe that's a sign that Taylor is so very popular. You can vote today, though, right?

Sharon, the voting only lasted four hours last night. Can't vote today. |

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | When you text vote, it goes through. They will send you a text message later letting you know that your votes are being counted. They only send 1, no matter how many times you vote.

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | We managed to get six votes in for Taylor. Took about 45 minutes on the IDOLS06 line. The competition last night wasn't even close. Kat had one good song, that's it. Taylor had 2-1/2 good songs.
Should the vote be anything along the lines of 1% between the two, it will prove that Idol is fixed. |

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | No, Slick, I disagree. It was a good song -- for a wedding. Outside of that context, I dunno, maybe on the Easy Listening station we have here for people like my mother.
It was also good for her voice, and good that she had the choir to back her up, because without it, it would have been horrid. |

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | We were at a meeting for the band trip while American Idol was on, but my hubby Tivo'd it and we started voting. My daughter text messaged about 150 times. I probably got through about 15 times. Not sure about my hubby.
We thought that "My Destiny" was a dreadful song for Katherine. She even sounded a little weak for about half a measure on her 'break' (when she transitions from chest to head voice.)
Hated Taylor's middle song. The same 5 notes played in exactly the same order over and over with different lyrics? Yuck.
The single that was written for him was a better song. I have felt for awhile that they wanted to tilt the odds for a male winner. I just wish the odds could have been tilted towards Elliott or Chris instead.
Taylor was the one contestant I took an instant dislike to from the moment I laid eyes on him....
I would have been OK with the following as winners (in order Mandisa or Elliott, followed by Paris, Lisa, and Ace. |

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | Well, to spare us all from mediocre talent, will we see your daughter in the audition pool next year? Then we could all have someone to root for. |

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | That would be worth text messaging for.
The last song for Katherine was not her at her best. But, I still prefer her talent. Tonight I;'ll be speed dialing with the hopes to get in more votes.

Well, to spare us all from mediocre talent, will we see your daughter in the audition pool next year? Then we could all have someone to root for. | As I said, I thought that several of the finalists were very talented--Katherine, Elliott, Mandisa, Paris, Lisa. I even voted for Elliott a number of times last week.
While many pop singers have very little, if any, vocal training (and no, my daughter isn't interested in pop singing--she likes jazz, indie rock, and classical) that doesn't mean that they shouldn't.
The US pop charts are inundated with 'singers' whose voices are a miracle of technology recreated in the sound studio. And yes, I thought it was refreshing to listen to some singers who would have sounded just as good in my living room as they will on their CD's.
Taylor isn't one of those people. If he wrote his own songs (perhaps a spinoff of something like "Dancing on the Ceiling") I might be able to tolerate him more. All we know about him is that he is an unmedicated ADHD southerner who has already cut two unheralded CD's and sung with a band.

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | ADHD? Really. I didn't know that. BTW, Taylor's middle song was Levon. It was an international hit for Elton John in 1972, reaching the Top 30 in America. I haven't seen the music in forever, but going through the song in my head, I remember at least one octave jump and some of the strongest lyrics Bernie Taupin ever wrote. It is a very difficult song for a male vocalistg to pull off without transposing it way down. |

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | Couldn't take it any more so I went to check the music.
Levon's first 5 vocal measures span 9 notes. It's not to everyone's taste. Heck, Elton, despite his millions of records sold, isn't to everyone's taste, but neither is Bob Carlisle's Butterfly Kisses, and I saw it make my father cry.
Go make a joyful noise and rejoice in those who do the same. |

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | Levon is one of the best songs that came out of the John/Taupin collaboration. I'm sorry I missed it!
So, tonite's the final night, eh? Guess I'd better jump on the bandwagon and watch this show for the first time.
Is it just me or is the hype surrounding this season bigger than it has been in the past?
