| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | I'm happy that the dweeby boy with the big voice made it. He's not star material, but I enjoy his voice.

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | Took me a while to find his name. It's Kevin Covais. He is definitely a dweeby kid, but his voice is angelic.

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | He's the one I said I had to like from the town of 4 people who had never seen ocean, been on a plane, etc.
His singing - eh, mediocre. His constant state of awe - pretty cool. |

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | I like the girl who came from the singing family. Can't remember her name -- young kid. The youngish guy who can sing falsetto is in the finals too, I think.
And I like the gray-haired guy because he has more gray than I do.
Oh, and the bald farmer from NC. He has power, tone, the works. He's in the final 5. |

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | Yeah, I think it's clear that they see her as a Kelly/Carrie clone, but the girl from the singing family (arrgghhhh - can't remember her name and the contestants link isn't live) will be the money voice from the females. I'm betting it comes down to her and the farmer. Or maybe the crooner. |

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | The cowboy was annoying to me. So was the Kelly girl. I can't really put my finger on why, but they were.
My favorite is still the 16-year-old with the curly hair and the big voice. I am looking forward to the "teamwork" and to those annoying twins getting cut (I can hope, right?).

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | I actually liked the twins. Thought they had a bit of character that might get them through the simon-bashing.

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | I don't think Simon is a bad judge. Any art is a tough, tough business. You think auditioning to play at your local club or to hand over a demo is any easier? Simon seems nicer than most of them. True, he's playing a personality, but Randy and Paula often pass someone on just to tweak him and inject comedy in the show. Simon will look at someone and say, "Your voice sounds like it belongs in a dinner theater in a very small town. We're talking about a national search for a star." And, you know, he's right.
I hate the twins. They make for good television. I don't think they're solid performers (they're kind of boring, frankly) and I hate their personalities. They are the Scott Savols of this year -- the contestant(s) you love to hate.
You know what was hilarious this week? Evereyone suddenly complaining they had a sore throat after it worked for the one lady. |

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | That one girl (the one who really WAS sick) I felt horribly for!!! That happened to me... only mine was the last dress rehearsal for a show in college for which we had NO understudies. I had NO voice at all, though. Nothing.
Then again, enough years of voice lessons taught me how to deal with it. I think she could have done more to rest and work on it (for instance, I would have been back in the hotel room steaming in the bathroom instead of on the bus trip), but hey... I'm too old anyway. |

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | Oh, I think Simon is a good judge too. I just think it's fun to have somebody give him back a little grief. Simon understands that it takes a lot more than a good voice to make a star, and he's definitely trying to find a star - not just the best singer.

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | I liked how everybody tried the sore throat excuse, too. The thing about the first one is that I could tell that she really did have a decent voice under there somewhere. The judges probably could too.

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | Don't like sore throat girl. As has been pointed out, go rest your body, wrap your throat in warm washcloths in the hotel, let the shower steam open you up, baby your voice. You have one shot. Hell, it was a calculated humanizing moment for the judges. It was only be sheer joyful luck that the other conestants started acting stupid and using the same excuse.
But a question has been bothering me. Look for the new AI poll coming up now. |

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | The lucky 24 are chosen: http://www.idolonfox.com/contestants/
(Amy, you must be happy the crying cowboy got booted after the group round)
Your "Final 24" are:
Ayla Brown
Becky O'Donahue
Ace Young
Bobby Bennet
Brenna Gethers
Heather Cox
Bucky Covington
Chris Daughtry
Katherine McPhee
Kellie Pickler
David Radford
Elliott Yamin
Kennik Sky
Lisa Tucker
Gedeon McKinney
Jose "Sway" Penala
Mandisa
Melisaa McGhee
Kevin Covals
Patrick Hall
Paris Bennett
Stevie Scott
Taylor Hicks
Will Makar
Any early edition faves?
Personally, I like Paris, Kellie, Will, and Taylor so far. I think Ayla has a "nice" voice. Sadly, she so reeks of niceness and an easy-glide life I have some trouble rooting for her. meow.
Brenna? The token bitch this season. Every season has the ONE they put throug just to keep the drama level high. Voice? eh. Kellie, we get you had a hard life and I'm kind of rooting for you because you have a rad voice, but if the producers dont stop HAMMERING your hard life people may stop the vote to stop the sap.
I like Patrick (especially his "I'm not as pretty as Ace, but then who is" comment the other night). My issue with Patrick is he hasn't had a memorable signing number so far. Good, yes. Memorable, no. That may cause him problems.
Why, oh why did Kinnick make it through?? She was flat. And then just off. And then flat again. Curly headed girl (see how quickly we forget you, idol wannabes, oh fickle public) had a much better voice.
Elliott and David get a resounding YAWN. Kevin has image issues, and I think one Clay-like crooner is enough. REALLY great voice though. Image problem, definitely.
Anyone else hoping Ace is cut early and knowing he wont be? |

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | I was yelling at the tv before I finally gave up and sighed in resignation. They are casting roles now, not actually putting the best folks through. You have the Kelly Clarkson/Carrie Underwood nice Southern girl, preferrably from Texas/Okhlahoma/Arkansas if possible, the annoying biotch, the Clay, the high school girl (see also Diana DeGarmo), the pretty model-type who just isn't that good (see also Ryan Starr (and hello, every time I see her name I think "made for pr0n"), Julia DeMato)... blargh. I'm surprised they forgot to cast someone with Pink! Hair!
It's getting too predictable and I might actually find myself losing interest. |

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | I hate that these shows always has to have a dramatic jerk or disliked person and that the token jerk always seems to make it through for way longer than their talent deserves.
It's going to take me a while to get all the girls straight in my head. So many of them are just alike in voice and appearance.
I absolutely adore Taylor Hicks, but e needs to smooth out some of the Ray Charles type movements in my book. To me, Taylor has the kind of character that makes him stand out.
Ace is absolutely yummy, but I didn't even have him on my radar until he was picked last night. If he's that forgettable, I'm not sure he's got what it takes to be the idol.
Amy

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | G and I decided that Taylor was the bastard love child of Stevie Wonder and Joe Cocker. I'm voting for him. But I bet the pretty machine dyes his hair before the end.
I had Ace on my radar, but I'm not sure if that's because I saw an interview with Paula where she was raving about him. I like his voice, too. |
