| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | I didn't like Brenna. I said Brenna had diva/star power or something like that. And she does. Her voice sucks. She's not all that great. But, man, she had attitude. Of course it was negative. She was Idol's first diva in long, long time.
My new prediction for the Final Four (last time I'll revise), but not bad if going from 16:
1. Chris
2. Lisa
3. Paris
(I really wanna say Elliot here but not until they clean him up)
4. Kellie (I adore Kellie. It's not her looks. In fact, I'm not even a guy who goes for blondes. She just has that incredible likability factor. I expect her to have her own show on Nickelodeon once the season ends. Winner: I think it's Chris. I think 19 Productions or whatever they're called wanted Bo to be their first rocker until they realized how one dimensional he is. (BTW, the album he made sucks. And I was wrong last year. Carrie blew him off the stage)
I'm thinking Chris is original, likable, talented and can be cleaned up. Chris is also the only one who can sing a song that will chart high now and make it stick. He is the best Idol contestant since Kelly Clarkson. Actually, he's better at this stage than Kelly was.
Taylor probably goes out at #6 or #7 and every woman over the age of 27 is going to cry. I think Taylor is a joy and fun. I now want him to sing Shameless by Billy Joel while they're all still in ballad mode and then I want him to sing any of about half of James Brown's catalog.
I just don't know what to do with Elliott. He would make a fine record -- a kind of Michael Buble sound -- but he doesn't have the wow factor or the "it" or all the stuff they talk about.
What about the judges? I realize a lot of it is either scripted or improved with a concept in advance, but I think Simon has been spot-on all season. Paula is really ticking me off (and I used to swoon for her) because of the bubbly cheerleader crap. "You're a star, you know it, and soon America will know it."
No, Paula, soon she will be singing dinner theater choruses in Kansas City while waiting tables. She's not a star. STFU.
And yo, yo, yo, keeping it real, dawg, you know, keepin' it real, just chilling. You don't talk like that in real life. Stop it! The best advice I heard Jackson give was last night when he said to two of the contestants (one singing Mariah, one singing Stevie) is that you can't take a distinctive stylist and just present the song. As Simon aptly pointed out, "That's karaoke". But Randy had to get in his little plug. "Yo, dawg, so check it out. I mean, I work with Mariah...." Oh, bite me already.
Look, at least for all of her inane cheerleading silliness, Paula did have six -- yes, six -- #1 Billboard singles. She's one of the top artists of her decade in terms of chart success. Randy's done other stuff too, and Simon, of course, is Mr. Boy Band from the U.K,, but that is what makes Simon perfect for this competition. He knows exactly how to tell a kid. "You're a nice kid. You like pretty, handsome, whatever and you sound okay, but you're simply not a star."
That's the kindest thing I've heard. Now if someone like Mandisa starts channeling Aretha (and not just Respect), she's going into the top 6 too, but as they so often point it, it ain't just about the pipes, and there's no way they're going to base their season on an overweight black woman who doesn't sing contemporary songs. They did that with Ruben Studdard and almost lost the show. That mistake won't happen again. |

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | G refers to Elliott as the Amish Michael Jackson.
I don't think it's a good sign.
And yeah...I LURVE Simon. Watching it, G and I kept yelling "Okay, Simon! Time for some reality!" I REALLY wonder what the acoustics are like in that studio because if they hear what I hear, Randy is hitting Paula's stash this season. |

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | I like the Amish Michael Jackson thing.
You know, if they modded up Elliott and taught him how to dance, he could pull off anything.
And Pippa, G is not allowed to use my A.I.M.N. (pronounced amen) phrase. I'm getting it protected.
That's the (A)merican (I)dol (M)oney (N)ote. It's the sustained note after the key change on every friggin song. And you know what? It's on both of Kelly's albums, it's on Ruben's album. It's on Carrie's. I can't stand it. I mean once or twice in 10 songs is cool. 8 times is not cool.
I'm waiting for the day they tell the final 12, "Okay, today's theme is Jane's Addiction songs. Have fun, Paris". Twerp could probably pull it off. |

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | Elliot is nasty. Yep, how deeply shallow of me. I hear his voice, I get set to enjoy, THEN you SEE him and his very weird teeth. And in spite of the voice, I'm all grossed out and I don't vote for him. Bad bad bad bad, more-shallow-than-even-I-thought me.
Paris I just love.
Simon is the best judge on the show. TG for Simon. And you know, the meaner he is, the more I dig it. Hmmmm. Maybe that is a problem I need to address...
Taylor is awesome. I want him to so some more upbeat songs that fit his personality as well as his voice.
Corvais should NOT have moved on this week. His rendition of a great song was just horrible! And aside from acknowledging he seems like a "nice kid", I don't get the same "isn't he cute and cuddly" vibe others seem to get.
Kellie Pickler - too much like Carrie Underwood. I will be surprised if she takes it all but not if she's in the top 6.
Do I miss Brenna? NO. Bye bye Brenna! DLTDHYITAOTWO |

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | Chris (Known as Mr. F. by Sarah and myself) is the one we wait to watch. Ace (Known as the underwear model around here) is cute and sweet, but it's Mr. F. that we want.
I was so happy to see Brenna go away. I was sad to see Kevin score as lowly as he did. I know he's not the Idol, but I want to see him on a bit longer. He's a fun kid.

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | I have lunchtime conversations with a few coworkers every day after American Idol is on. The ones who have a clue about music agree with Simon's comments and like people like Chris and Lisa and Paris because they can actually sing. The ones who don't have a clue about music agree with Paula and like people like Kevin and Heather because they're cute. I am much more on the Simon side - in fact, I've taken to giving my comments before the judges do, and I say about what Simon says about 75% of the time.

Anyone notice that Randy Jackson is agreeing with Simon more this year? He is being Cool Dawg, but he has often stepped right over the top of Paula to agree with Simon |

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | So. Is Simon right? Are Kinnick and Melissa goners? I would rather see Ayla go than Kinnick, but I figure all three are bound to go soon. After that, we'll lose whichever of those three didn't make it. After that, I think it gets tougher to see who's going to go away. I think Paris can easily lose out earlier than she would like to if she doesn't find a song that works as well as her first one did. She hasn't wowed me since night one.

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | I agree with Simon that Melissa and Kinnik are out. I actually said Melissa was out while Randy and Paula were saying wow. And Amy, I agree with you about Paris. She hasn't wowed me either.

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | I really like Melissa. It's too early for her. Would rather see Ayla go, but I suspect it will be Melissa. I thought she was strong last night. Kinnick is way gone. Boring song, so-so delivery.
The women (with the exception of Mandisa and Kellie) keep doing overcooked ballads while they need to get out there and crush an up-tempo song.
So who was shocked by Simon telling Kellie, "I think I like you better than last year's winner?"
I really, really like Kellie. I think Chris is the Idol, and I think Kellie is around for a long time. |

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | Why does eveyone like Kellie so much !? i mean, really nice voice, yes. Pretty, yes. But I just don't see the cute, cuddly factor everyone else sees in her. That just comes across as her "not all that bright" factor to me. What am I missing??
Paris. I really am rooting for Paris, and yet this week her voice was not strong and nothing stood out about her performance for me. I was very disappointed in her song choice.
Ayla. Feh. Kennick. Yawn.
I really like Mandisa, she has a powerhouse voice. I'm not seeing America giveng her the win, though.
I'm excited to see what Chris and Taylor will choose for tonight though. |

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | Kellie lost me last night with the minx bit. They have libraries in the sticks too.
I do think Chris is the idol though. I hope Mandisa gets picked up by somebody. She's too talented and personable to just melt into obscurity.

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | Last night was the first time I watched the women.
I have to agree with Leslie.
Kellie is a cute country bumpkin. She can sing, she's adorable, she's dumb as a doorknob (or at least lets us think so), but she's not outstanding.
I think that Mandisa without a doubt can blow the others out of the water. I've seen her sing a few times and she's great! She's got an amazing voice. She's pretty. The only non-idol thing is that she's overweight, but hell - she's a lot prettier than Rubin.
From what I've seen the two best in the competition are Mandisa and Elliott (is that his name - the short haired guy) and neither of them "look" like idol material. |

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | I saw the whole girls' show through for the first time last night.
Ayla has the perfect model's body, but her outfit would have given Mr. Blackwell an attack of nausea. Those capris looked like a baggy old washerwoman's pants, and the big clunky shoes were dreadful, too. How can someone with such a long, lean, exquisite figure go to the rag bag on an occasion like this?
Katherine McPhee has that Valerie Bertinelli look, talent and vocal training. She can sing anything. I think she can make it to the finish.
Mandisa, wow, wow, wow! Spectacular voice, great enthusiasm and stage presence. It could sound like a cliche, but it ain't over till the fat lady sings....she'll do well, too.
Paris Bennett and Lisa Tucker are both young, enthusiastic, and talented. Paris is cuter, just adorable. Lisa has more vocal talent.
Kellie Pickler. I was surprised her comments were as positive as they were.....
My husband and I think Melissa and Kinnick will be voted off this week. |

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | Kellie is just cute. And ask anyone. I HATE cute. I make Walter Matthau look like Mother Theresa. This kid just makes me smile. Chris makes me smile. Elliott makes me smile because I can only imagine what dinner is like at his house.
Those are your Idol hopefuls, I think. I adore Lisa and think Paris is talented. Paris has gotten way too much coaching in the last few weeks though. She's acting like a 22 year old, not a 16 year old. Lisa has the full package, but gets boring.
I think the other thing that was appealing about Kellie was her stage presence. It's nowhere near Mandisa, but heck, she has world-class presence. I have no idea why she isn't in musical theater today. But Kellie plays a variety of roles brilliantly and doesn't sing the stupid ballad in the same stupid tempo every week. Her song choices have been inspired.
And damnit, she is cute. As Simon always points out, this isn't a competition about vocal talent -- it's about star power. |

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | Oh, come on. What woman would NOT want to be described by Simon as "a naughty little minx?" In a British accent, no less. Watch out Paula, he says? I think Kellie better watch out for Daddy Simon.
Even if she did think he called her a mink. Will she sing Muskrat Love to him next week?

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | That whole "My daddy's in jail and mama left me" bit is getting old.
ACE? Oh my god... someone put him out of his misery. WHAT is with the two falsetto songs in a row? That's the best he can do? Elliott looks scary when he sings. I like him well enough if I close my eyes, but he looks like an axe murderer.
Chris was a little off last night. I heard what Simon said about that song choice. I want to hear him do the GooGoo Dolls' Iris myself. |

| | Re American Idol Season 5... | | I do not like Kellie and have not liked her since day one. I am waiting for her to get the boot. I wasn't impressed by any of the guys last night, though Chris is still my favorite overall. I think Kevin and Will will be the ones to go.
