You think Flagg is the Devil?
I think he is or was described as a demon. Probably not the devil though.

And if you look at King now, he had to drop at least 50 pounds, probably more. I know he had that accident, and I remember something about him quitting smoking, but both of those could lead to weight gain, not loss.

Coke, however, is another story. One of Dennis Miller's best lines ever was about David Crosby. "I can't respect a fat coke addict. Pick one. Be fat or do coke. You can't do both. How hard do you have to work to pull that one off?"*

*paraphrased like mad so Miller probably said it better, referenced Camus and added at least one expletive.

Your old music cannot sustain you through a life, not if you're someone who listens to music every day, at every opportunity. You need input, because pop music is about freshness, about Nelly Furtado and the maddeningly memorable fourth track on a first album by a band you saw on a late-night TV show. And no, that fourth track is not as good as anything on Pet Sounds or Blonde on Blonde or What's Going On, but when was the last time you played Pet Sounds? - Songbook by Nick Hornby

Re I hate Stephen King

King quit the coke long before the accident...the reason he was out walking that day was because he was getting himself back in shape - mid life realization that he was mortal after all. The coke phase was when he wrote 'Salem's Lot", The Shining; think it was at it's peak with the abysmal "Tommyknockers". Been a while since I read "On Writing" (lent it out and it's since disappeared) and I can't remember exactly which book was the first after he'd quit.

Mother Abigail (in The Stand) calls Flagg "Satan's Imp" and says he is an instrument of Satan. I agree he is not The devil, but a presence of evil who was able to manefest himself into many forms in many worlds.

I love how most of King's books tie together with recurring themes. The initials R.F. end up being the bad guy pretty often. Turtles, of course, make multiple appearances as well.

I'm just glad he dropped clowns. Pennywise freaked me out BIG time.

Re I hate Stephen King

There a good Wikipedia article on him:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_King

His family did an intervention shortly after Tommyknockers. According to the list at the bottom, the next books were Dark Visions, Dark Half, Dolan's Cadillac.

Not sure about the intervention part because it says citation needed. Xanax and Valium could be legitimately prescribed. Cocaine, of course, requires flowing blond hair, a wah-wah pedal and two gold records. Or dreams thereof.

Excellent wikipedia article, Melanie. But now I'm on a mission:

Don't have, haven't read, haven't ever heard of.

Dammit I hate it when that happens.

Re I hate Stephen King

Hell I don't know. I think I was trying to do a different smilie. But wiki articles are sometimes suspect...that one's accurate and has a lot of good info.
