Andrea!

Earlier this year, pluckyduck was searching for the next Anne Tyler.

This review showed up in my mailbox this morning, and sounds as though it might fit the bill :
Quote:
THE CORRECTIONS : THE NEXT GREAT AMERICAN NOVEL- Funny, profound, and gorgeously written, The Corrections, Jonathan Franzen's grandly entertaining third novel, is sure to be one of the year's most celebrated books. Chronicling the dysfunctions of a Midwestern family, Franzen is unflinching but generous, observant enough to find comedy and tenderness in his exquisitely drawn characters. Read an excerpt, then read our interview with Franzen, who talks about the social role of entertaining fiction.
Has anyone read it?

Cindy

Oooooh!

I have to get back to that kind of reading. I filled my summer with Don's kind of books, murder, intrigue, mystery, mayhem....enjoyable but not exactly what I want to be reading right now (given the latest events).

A little family dysfunction sounds just right.

MrsNormanMaine is on a distinguished road

No, but I read Franzen's first novel (The twenty-seventh City) and a bunch of his New Yorker pieces so I trust him to produce something good. I'll look for it.
