Haunted by my past

I've been giggling ever since my friend called me this weekend with the latest news from her family.

Background: She and I met through Bible quizzing back when we were in junior high. We became almost immediate friends when we discovered that we were both rabid writers of fan fiction (of course, we didn't know at the time that that's what it was called--this was pre-Internet days and we were pretty young). We'd send 20-page long letters to each other several times a week with our stories. The Westland contingent (there were three of us) wrote all our stories in the Battlestar Galactica universe. They wrote theirs in Wonder Woman, but soon joined us in BG and later Star Wars and some other really bad 80s television shows. (I blush just thinking about it!)

Anyway, we grew up and left our fan fiction writing behind. Her husband is a science fiction/fantasy writer who has done a few series and several novelizations. He got a call last week from one of his publishers asking him if he'd write one of the novelizations for....you guessed it: the new Battlestar Galactica.

We haven't been able to stop laughing about it since.

Wow, that's pretty cool. Graduating from fan fiction to the real stuff. I think some of the ST authors started that way too.

So we'll be seeing an interview with him on your web site?

Your old music cannot sustain you through a life, not if you're someone who listens to music every day, at every opportunity. You need input, because pop music is about freshness, about Nelly Furtado and the maddeningly memorable fourth track on a first album by a band you saw on a late-night TV show. And no, that fourth track is not as good as anything on Pet Sounds or Blonde on Blonde or What's Going On, but when was the last time you played Pet Sounds? - Songbook by Nick Hornby

Why, there's already an interview with him on my Website (he's the guy with the harp that hung out on the front page for oh, what? a year?):

http://www.bookhelpweb.com/authors/piziks/piziks2a.htm

Er, though it appears the first several paragraphs got cut off. Gonna have to talk to the Webmaster about that.

Here's his profile:

And I should add in his defense. HE wasn't the one writing fan fiction, it was his wife and I. I could ask him whether he's got review copies, but I ain't reviewing it! You, on the other hand, Pippa, as a fan of the series...

Oh, the grainy picture of the big guy? I remember him. Well, good for him. He will actually do well in that universe based on the one book of his I read.
