| | Re Taylor or Katharine - not who you WANT, but who will win | | FWIW, in "reality" I don't think it will even be close. In typical Idol fashion, there will be a difference of less than 1% between Hicks and McPhee, because, you know, they need it to be like that. |

Even though Taylor was predicted to have 39% last week (compared to Katherine's 32% and Elliott's 29%) the vote was extremely close. Support for him was overestimated, or else it has eroded.
I think Katherine's vote will be even higher if the judges are tough on her because they want a male Idol this time. So far their double standard judging has brought out her supporters. |

That's why they said the votes were close last time. Every year the three finalists get "the most votes in American Idol" history and Ryan Seacrest "can't believe how close the race to the finish is".
Heaven forbid someone feel like they lost. Might damage their self esteem. |

| | Re Taylor or Katharine - not who you WANT, but who will win | | Isn't that weird? BY the way the judges were last week I had it in my mind that Taylor won and that is was over. I'm voting for the girl!!! (She sounded better to me.)

| | Re Taylor or Katharine - not who you WANT, but who will win | | LOL. The thread is for who we think will win. I think it will be Taylor, but I'm still voting Katherine.

| | Re Taylor or Katharine - not who you WANT, but who will win | | I hope Simon didn't skew the results with his prediction. I'm afraid that will put Katherine fans in overdrive or cause Taylor fans to not votes as much because they think he's a shoo-in.

| | Re Taylor or Katharine - not who you WANT, but who will win | | It sounds like a crap shoot really. Who knows? But, it is fun speculating. I still think it will Taylor just on gut instinct.

That's why, for the first time ever, we voted. Took us 45 minutes to get six votes in for Taylor last night before we gave up. |

| | Re Taylor or Katharine - not who you WANT, but who will win | | Zabasearch has called it for Taylor (no stats yet.)
DialIdol had Taylor up by 8 1/2% this morning, according to my hubby.
I am just astonished. When someone with as little talent as Taylor can win, it will bring on hordes of contestants next year.
If there were 70,000 auditioning this year (after a talented singer won) there could be 300,000 next year. Taylor's win will give an awful lot of mediocre wannabes hope. |

| | Re Taylor or Katharine - not who you WANT, but who will win | | Ya know, Taylor has talent. He's just not to your taste. He has the talent to make people enjoy themselves and feel good about the music. That's a talent that's just as important as singing ability when it comes to being a pop singer. Madona isn't a 'great' singer either. But, she has a bunch of fans.

Taylor deserves to win- Who else here has tried to sing "Levon" and sounded good?

| | Re Taylor or Katharine - not who you WANT, but who will win | | Didn't he record an album? Didn't he make a living as a musician?
You know, once people can actually support themselves with their art, whatever that might be, they step up from "mediocre" and become "professonals".
But I guess the bottom line is that millions of data points have been set for this competition. Fraz had someone "...someone with as little talent", but I'm guessing that is more style issues than anything. Either that, or Fraz is right and tens of millions of Americans are unable to judge music as well as she.
Frankly, I thought the two best pure vocalists were voted out early. I think one of the best entertainers is left. But I sure did think Daughtry had this thing locked up.
As for the winners, I went with Hicks even before hearing McPhee butcher Somewhere Over The Rainbow with an arrangement designed to show off how thin her voice gets at the top of her register. She has problems with the bottom of her register as well. She ended up swallowing entire phrases.
I think the competition boiled down to diva vs. pop entertainer, and the pop guy won. |

| | Re Taylor or Katharine - not who you WANT, but who will win | | She's not really that much of a diva though, wouldn't you say so? I'm not saying she can't sing, but she has zero stage presence. She's beautiful to look at, but that only gets you so far.
IMO, a diva can entertain. While she has everything else, she lacks that ability.
FWIW, Frazz, I can appreciate that you don't like Taylor, but let's be fair. He's entertaining. He may not be your cup of tea, but he knows how to put on a show.
More than anything, that's what sells tickets. | | |
