| | Re The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy | | Suspend disbelief, suspend logic and go with the strange logic provided by the author. It's like Terry Pratchett in that respect.

| | Re The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy | | DVD, MJ. Almost totally different animals.
Movie was "eh", okay. They could have done SOOOO much better if they'd really tried.
Have you read the book?

| | Re The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy | | I know, I was referring to "author" as in "the guy who wrote the screenplay hopefully pretty closely based on the original author's work." I just didn't feel like typing it out.

Actually, I think Adams wrote most or all of the screenplay. Which is why the totally off-key addition of the Malkovitch character made it in - he did it, so it was "okay".

| | Re The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy | | Very disappointed in the movie. And I didn't go in with high hopes. Although I thought the trailer looked funny.
Just, none of what I liked about the books came thorugh. Completely different animal. |

| | Re The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy | | I've never read any of the books. I probably should. I think it's on "that list" somewhere.
The film was just....odd. We did laugh quite a bit once it got started up, but I had a hard time grasping any kind of plot for most of it.
I just want to know if the President got his other head back ever. And what those flyswatter things were.

| | Re The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy | | OMG, Lynn, you just must read the books! At home, where you won't disturb anyone else when you cackle loudly. These are wonderful. And what JP said - the movie was pretty bad, IMO. |

But yes, read the books. I still want to see the movie though, just because.

| | Re The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy | | The only on screen version I have seen is an old BBC (I think) production. I did enjoy the books.

| | Re The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy | | It's better, IMHO, than the BBC version. And Alan Rickman made the movie watchable for me. He was PERFECT. |

Fluppy Dogs went to VHS Hell long, long ago.

| | Re The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy | | I thought the movie was pretty funny--though definitely nowhere near the laugh factor of the books.
It was a decent evening's entertainment and we went to see it with friends, which made it even more worthwhile.
