| | Re American Idol Season 6 | | And House is delayed another three weeks for it! Waaahhhh!
I am upset about House, but I do like watching the auditions for AI so hopefully it will balance out.

| | Re American Idol Season 6 | | I know that the auditions are funny - but I get bored after a while. I usually don't watch regularly until they get down to the final 16 or 18 or whatever it is.

| | Re American Idol Season 6 | | I'm not too crazy about the auditions either. To me, a lot of the hopefuls represent the worst of what America has to offer behavior wise.

| | Re American Idol Season 6 | | I'm a little disillusioned with American Idol. We've heard four sample tracks from Katherine McPhee's Clive Davis CD.
I can't imagine how any serious musician would want to be Davis-ized after listening to these four tracks.
In one she sounded like Britney Spears in a song with lyrics more suited to a 17 year-old than someone in her twenties.
In two she sounded like Beyonce.
In one she sounded like Missy Elliott.
Well, she's not a teenybopper pop star. She's not a hip-hopper. She's not Beyonce.
So far, what we've heard of the CD seems to be everything except what she is--someone who loves Broadway and the old standards and excels in those types of songs.
Elliott Yamin (another one of my favorites) was wise not to let himself be squeezed into a particular pigeonhole.
On the other hand, Davis seemed to do a pretty good job with Kellie Pickler. I saw her on Leno. She looked really cute and relaxed and comfortable with a lively country song that had an undemanding vocal range of an octave or so.....I still think she is more of a comedienne than a singer, and I see she has a situation comedy pilot opportunity. |

| | Re American Idol Season 6 | | Pippa and Leslie why havne't you guys posted about Courtney Love possibly being hired to replace Paula? I nearly wet myself, I thought I was on a parody site. But no, when I checked, I was still on the ABC news site.
Courtney Love replacing Paula because of P.s substance abuse problems.... |

| | Re American Idol Season 6 | | One of the good/bad points of my blog gig is that I see a lot of these stories before they hit most places. And have already seen them discounted. I'm starting to get a decent feel for the things that are going to be proved false. I'm rarely surprised anymore. And I'm tired of looking at naked boobies. |

On your blog?
And even though it's not true, how cool would it have been to write to Harold Bloom and say,"Irony is not either dead!"? |

| | Re American Idol Season 6 | | Things I Like So Far This Year:
-- Ryan Seacrest is actually becoming a good television host.
-- Randy has not run out of tired phrases and has added some.
-- Nice to see Olivia Newton-John after her battle with breast cancer.
-- About friggin' time someone gave Carole Bayer Sager some credit.
-- We're finally seeing security -- that's cool.
Things I Don't Like This Year:
-- Too much emphasis on the whack jobs rather than the merely bad.
-- Too much emphasis on crying.
-- Too many staged moments.
-- Letting singers from previous years' Hollywood week back in. You had your shot -- move on.
Question for the group: if you've sung back up for Christina (like one guy did) or other famous stars, don't you have enough juice with someone to get your own audition in front of an A&R person? Why would you go to American Idol when you can have one of Christina's people put in a word at the music company? |
