| | I can't believe no one is talking about the ads, halftime or game at all! Was I the only one watching, or are y'all still sleeping?
My take:
Game - woo hoo! The second half became a yawner (even though we were rooting for the Colts) but I still enjoyed it. Could not believe all that rain!!!
Halftime - is it just me, or has Prince just not aged a day since the 80's? I mean, we were discussing Dorian Grey, FCOL...he looks fantabulous. And I loved, loved, loved his set. I called it that he'd play "Let's Get Crazy" and one of the other gals at our party called "Purple Rain" (I really didn't think they'd play it...but I'm glad they did).
Commercials - boring boring boring. I think my favorite was the Dave Letterman/Oprah cuddling on the couch, and that wasn't really a commercial. The rest were, for the most part, pretty forgettable. It was a bit of a shock to see all Coke ads - no Pepsi after all these years. Maybe Coke is buying a come back?

| | I couldn't stop noticing the rain and feeling terrible for those players. I hate rain, and I'd have been miserable by the five-minute mark of the first quarter.
Commercials: Blockbuster, with the rabbit and the guinea pig clicking the mouse - laughed. Liked the Doritos home-made commercial with "cheesy" "bold" (guy staring at girl rear-ends another car).
The Ford contestant-made commercial with the girls in the car with the guys taking off their clothes to rub themselves on the car - eh. The people singing about their Chevys - eh. The Toyota commercials with the truck doing those dangerous stunts made me squirm. And I don't quite know what they were thinking with the car robot having the nightmare that he made a mistake and would end up unemployed... it was cute, it was sad, the robot was expressive, but having had family members work the assembly line, it was hard to feel sorry for an unemployed robot who's doing the job once done by a human, who probably had a hard time finding work after the robot showed up.
I think I laughed out loud at the commercials maybe three times, but other than the Blockbuster one, I don't remember what made me laugh... which I would think is a bad sign No run-away favorite like the streaking sheep from last year.

| | I must have missed the Blockbuster one, MJ.
I did laugh out loud at the NFL one where all the fans from the teams who didn't make the cut were putting away their gear. And then Farve at the end...I can't believe he's coming back another year. The boy needs to hang it up, FCOL.
I just read somewhere that that commercial and the one with the car wash were actually crafted by fans - a college student and some guy (Giant fan, maybe???) who won contests to design a SuperBowl commercial.
New wave of the future?

| | I liked the first two commercials, after that, meh. The first was the Bud rock-paper-siscors, the second the Blockbuster one, which isn't even new. Nick and I about died laughing (nearly literally, since we're both still coughing so bad), but after that, I wasn't too impressed.
The game was okay, I guess, but nothing to get too excited about. Halftime was good, although Nick made fun of it the majority of the time. I fell asleep shortly have halftime, so I missed half the commercials, but sounds like it's not a big deal.
The radio DJs were going on about Billy Joel, when did he perform?

| | Yup, the Ford car-wahs one was a college girl whose commerical won a competition held by Ford. The Doritos make-an-ad contest was online, IIRC, and people voted for what they wanted to see.

Billy did the Star Spangled Banner. | Yup, we missed that. Watched a movie before the game that got over at about 5:20. Bummer though, I would have liked to hear him sing it.

We were supposed to be at the party by 5 - of course the boys were dragging their feet. I went out at about 5:26 and started up the car to leave...the DJ made mention of that fact that the game had just kicked off and the Bears had already scored. I was Not Happy.
Then we went to drive to our friend's house, and there were about 5 firetrucks, sheriffs cars and what not, with lights a-blazing, at the top of the hill. Right in between where we were and where we wanted to go. So we had to drive all the way around...missed a good portion of the first quarter.
I like to watch the game from the very beginning...I should have just turned it on at 5 like I usually do (but THEY were supposed to be ready )

| | I liked the connectile dysfunction (CD) commerical.
Kinda watched the game, and my husband wouldn't watch halftime and he runs the remote, of course.

My faves:
First Quarter: Blockbuster Total Access (LOL funny)
Second Quarter: Spot Wink (cute, but no "oomph")
Third Quarter: Emerald Nuts (Robert Goulet looked like he had fun)
Fourth Quarter: If I HAD to pick one, E*Trade with the finger, but only if I had to pick one. (Sort of funny, had a punchline you saw coming a mile away).

| | I forgot about the Bud Light wedding one, that was pretty funny. Unfortunately I can't watch them at work. They were talking about the beard combover one on the radio this morning, so I was hoping to actually watch it, but I guess I'll have to try to remember when I get home.

| | Can the Religious Right go away? NOW? PLEASE? Prince's Performance "Controversial"
So the guitar behind the sheet scene was phallic. DUH. I suppose now the FCC is going to ban guitar-playing on television.
Sorry, this makes me a little angry. I have to laugh because it's so friggin STOOPID...but the fact that some people are so totally serious about it just makes me want to go hide in a hole.

| | "But doctor, you're the one showing me the dirty pictures!"
Sometimes a guitar is just a guitar. I mean really, Prince knows how to be shocking and over-the-top and dirty as 42nd Street (used to be). His performance was rather restrained, compared to MANY MANY MANY of his prior performances, including ones broadcast on TV. I saw the sheet projection business a neat way to change the 5'-nuthin' Prince into a huge, at least 8 foot profile and thought it was a neat effect, not an opportunity to be sleezy. | |
