Bridge to Terabithia - the movie

We went to see Bridge to Terabithia today. I'd forgotten most of the story line- especially the ending. It came back to me as the children were crossing the stream for the first time. There I was with my 11yo who was totally not expecting the movie to take the twists it took because his clueless mom forgot how the book ended.

He was fine, I was bawling. OTOH, this is the kid who was fine when I read Pink and Say to him at the age of 5, not knowing how that ended either.

The movie was wonderful and I highly recommend it for adults and for children who are not likely to be traumatized by the sad part of the movie.

Re Bridge to Terabithia - the movie

Thank you! I was JUST going to post to ask if anyone had been to see it. I just got Beanie the book (or Santa did... can't remember) and wanted to see if the movie ended the same way. I think that the visual of it would be MUCH more traumatic than reading it. I think we'll save it for when she is older.

Me, too. The boys might be fine, I'd sob all the way through.

Re Bridge to Terabithia - the movie

I had to read the book out load for Jay in grade four, so there I'm sitting with Jay on one side of me, and Ben on the other, trying to finish the last chapter without sobbing. I can't imagine how they can make a good movie from the book as I remember it. All the pretend stuff was so secondary to the plot.

Re Bridge to Terabithia - the movie

They really did an excellent job of incorporating the fantasy into the main story. There were some surprises there which I won't spoil, but definitely not for sensitive kids because the sad part comes up very unexpectedly if you've never read the book. If Beany has read the book, it might be OK. They handled it very well, IMHO, but I don't know her. I was only concerned about Matthew because he didn't know it was coming.

Re Bridge to Terabithia - the movie

She's okay with cartoon death and stuff, but she gets very hung up on real people. I think it might be an issue.

Re Bridge to Terabithia - the movie

It could very easily be an issue, because you just don't see it coming if you don't know the story. Also, they've done such a great job of acting that the lead characters are REAL people in the story. Most of the supporting performers could die and nobody would care, but I was really impressed with the acting capabilities of the 2 lead characters.

Re Bridge to Terabithia - the movie

I'm not sure I want to see this, I remember how the book ended all too well

This book and "A Taste Of Blackberries" are forever stuck in my head

Re Bridge to Terabithia - the movie

A 30 yo guy comes into my office today and told this movie made him cry. Said it made him cry even though he knew how it ended.
