| | The other day, the boy-child and I watched a show called Dirty Jobs. This guy goes out and learns about various dirty jobs (cleaning sewers, farming mushrooms, studying dead fish, etc.)
In one episode, he was out gathering water snakes and taking them back to a lab for study. In the lab, they stuck a probe up the snakes umhm to determine if it was male or female. Then, they forced the snake to regurgitate what it had eaten. They bagged the snake-puke, tagged the snake with a marker chip, and released it.
And, I finally understood alien abductions. We're on a freaking extraterrestrial nature show!

| | We definitely watch "Dirty Jobs", "Deadliest Catch" and "MythBusters" religiously in this house. I like Dirty Jobs and MythBusters, but Deadliest Catch is like being trapped in Gloucester without the beer. |

| | I love Mythbusters. I am not a total wimp./ The Crab-Catching show scares me. Not for the content, for the fact that a good friend has bought the first season on DVD to watch over and over. |

| | Hanibal Lecter would probably cringe too
I found another show I am enjoying along the whole science/reality genre. It's all about how various things are made. I used to love Mr. Roger's videos on how crayons, etc. were made.

| | I love Dirty Jobs and MythBusters! When Dirty Jobs first came out I thought it sounded really stupid, but now that I've watched it, I really like it.

| | If I ever do get around to getting cable/satellite, it will be for the sole purpose of getting History, Discovery, and pretty much all the shows mentioned in this thread.
I like Dirty Jobs when it's just dirty and icky. When it actually gets disgusting I'm not so fond of it.

| | We recently upgraded our cable (I got sick of hearing about it) and now get those channels, Melanie. My husband is glued to shows like how they made the Mackinaw (sp?) bridge and making some roads somewhere. I think he is just a he-man wannabe at heart.
I haven't seen Dirty Jobs but almost daily Tucker comes to tell me about how something is made!
Now the important question: Do you think my 16 year old obeys when I tell him he better not be watching those girls gone wild commercials? Guys what do you think?

Better to see the commercials than the tapes. | Well, I guess that would be right. Surely nobody at your house has ordered them.
Thankfully my dh is into Jeep porn.

| | No. Hubby was asking for them for Xmas for a while there.
Of course, karma is a bitch because Joe Francis, the creator of that mess, is in jail. On a contempt charge, but there are THREE other criminal charges against him, including attemted bribery of a prison guard, sexual battery, and a Federal charge for tax evasion. WHEE! |

| | Re: How Things Are Made - some are really good, interesting, kewl episodes. Then there's the one about toothpicks. (My version would have been "Take wood. Slice it into slivers. Put in box. Drop for Rainman to count.") Hubby finds the series fascinating and every time it's on, I ask if they're doing a sequel to toothpicks. He ignores me.
