Concert For Diana

Anyone else watching?

I'm having chills. I remember watching the wedding to Prince Charles, and for some reason really identified with her over the years. Many of her life events paralleled mine - Bree and Wills are about the same age for one. I vividly remember the night she died; we were watching Saturday Night Live (my parents were visiting) and at first we thought the footage was a joke.

I think she'd be proud of how her boys grew up.

Re Concert For Diana

I wanted to see it! I was in summer school when the wedding happened, and I stayed up all night to get a good spot in the TV room. And then watched it a second time when it was replayed during prime time.

And I know what you eman about parallels, Lynn. I got married the year after. #1 is about 6 years younger than Prince William. And, do you remember during Andrew and FErgie's wedding, how he poked at his cousins with his little ceremonial sword?

I didn't find out about her death until the next morning - Kevin woke me up because the relatives had called, and he was nearly in tears. I did cry when I heard the news.

Re Concert For Diana

I watched. We all did here. It was beautiful.
It is hard to believe the boys are all grown up. I remember the wedding and the funeral. I do miss her.

Re Concert For Diana

I saw parts of the concert live. During the concert, I couldn't help but worry that the terrorists who had set off car bombs in London and driven a wired car into Glasgow Airport might look at this occasion as a prime target.

Earlier in the day, my husband had a Wimbledon match on, and I thought the same thing.

I found myself grateful that everyone was able to gather together in Diana's memory without the occasion being endangered by terrorism. Her work for children maimed in land mines and her interest in human rights stands in direct opposition to what the Glasgow/London terrorists seek to do.

I pray for a return to safety and peace in the UK.
