Pop CultureThe books, movies, television shows and music of our generation. - Whatever that generation may be. Movie, music, book, and television trivia and commentary and much more.
Many times when an artist covers a song, you cringe - it's not better than the original, and often worse. But sometimes a cover turns a song into something entirely new for you. What are your favorite covers?
A few of mine:
Johnny Cash covering Hurt by Nine Inch Nails/Trent Reznor
Oh, and I almost forgot: Green Day's cover of Working Class Hero by John Lennon. John Lennon And Plastic Ono Band is one of my favorite records, and this cover actually gave the song an undertone of anger that it seemed to be missing before. In a nod to Wivabef I posted the Darfur version of the video .
I just heard the U2 cover of Instant Karma a couple of days ago from the Dafur CD...it was awesome. Thanks for the reminder, I do want to pick up that CD.
Aerosmith "Big Ten Inch" is one of my favorite covers.

I could listen to Keith Richards' guitar work on this all day long. Brilliant.
It's her song, but Otis wrote it and recorded it first...
Delia's favorite gangsta rap song ever...
Is a performance at a tribute concert a cover? Does it matter if Neil Young, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Roger McGuinn, Tom Petty and others are playing?

Agreed. I never liked the Lennon version, but Green Day got to the anger boiling underneath.
First one that comes to mind every time I hear this question is Everclear's cover of "Brown Eyed Girl". It's a lot slower than the original but when it gets loud it rocks my FACE OFF!
