Re Dark Tower Lovers

My last response got eaten by a cyber monster. Probably a good thing.

I don't know how I feel about this. I'm not wild about taking an epic, 7-book series and making it into a film, unless they do like they did with the Potter books and have a series of movies. That might work out okay.

That being said...who would be cast in the major roles???? Eastwood is the obvious Roland, but he's getting a little old for the role. It might be best to go with total unknowns and build them into the roles instead of doing like they did with The Stand and making Molly Ringwald fit into Fran's shoes.

Tough call. Most of King's books don't adapt well to film- filmmakers try to hard to focus on THE HORROR aspect and don't give enough to the story or character development.

Of course when it comes out, I'll probably be among the first in line regardless of what I say here. Amy and Leslie...maybe we need to have a get together?

Re Dark Tower Lovers

I think unknowns would be best. I think the first book alone would make a great movie. Not sure about the rest.

Re Dark Tower Lovers

But because it doesn't "finish", it's not stand alone. There would have to be a continuation until the last book
.

The other books are great, but soooo convoluted. How in God's name could they make the ties with other King books ('salems Lot, King himself) when they are required for the story??

I agree though. It would HAVE to be unknowns. And I'm still not convinced it's a good idea.

Re Dark Tower Lovers

Eh, I am not suprised, but am also not particularily interested either. I have seen only a couple of King's books that have been made into good movies. I have seen a lot made into bad movies. I love this series and would hate to think of it being soiled, if only in my mind, by a bad adaptation.

That said, there is absolutely no way they could even begin to tell the story in 1 movie. They would have to follow HP's success and serialize it as Lynn suggested. And they would be foolish to go with familiar actors, IMHO.

Oh come on. You'd go with me. And if was bad, we'd be just like those robots in Mystery Science Theater 2000..........

I need to corner you someday and talk this series out. We've never actually discussed Book 7.

Re Dark Tower Lovers

Wow. Roland is hundreds of years old and Eastwood is too old?
