Hannah Montana: Marketing Genius

And in other pop culture news (because I have nothing else to occupy my addled brain this afternoon)...

I heard on the radio this a.m. that the Hannah Montana movie is set to come out in February. And that theatres are jumping through hoops to set up more show times, because pre-tickets are selling out fast.

Oh yeah. The movie is only in theatres for ONE WEEK. Here's the story.

Are the guys behind this geniuses or what? Nothing like rabid hype, and then limiting access to generate PR.

Ask me how much the tickets are. And yes, I already have them. I couldn't disappoint Beanie AGAIN.

$15 a piece. No matinee pricing. No child-under-12 pricing. And tack on the Fandango convenience fee, which is at LEAST less money than Ticketscheister's.

Re Hannah Montana: Marketing Genius

I refuse, refuse, refuse to spend $15 on some movie that you know will find it's way out of the "Disney Vault" in time for next Christmas.

Barf.

And then, for them to make it that exclusive. No way.

Also... the girl scout troop people... 15 of cookie money each girl??? That's how much I pay for each of them on a camping trip.

Sigh.

Re Hannah Montana: Marketing Genius

As I said, "Genius"

Give the people what they want, but not too much of it. And be ambiguous about if and when it will be coming out on DVD....sell out through Fandango who will reap in the scores of fees.

Anyone think she's a candidate to Britneyplode? I think Disney and her parents will keep a tight rein on her until she's 18...then who knows.

Re Hannah Montana: Marketing Genius

Yeah, but Britney's mom wasn't a hardass. From what I've read in interviews, Billy Ray and his wife ARE hardasses. Big time. As in, she gets an allowance. Has a curfew. I think one of the pluses of having a parent in the industry is that a) they aren't trying to live vicariously b) they already have their own bankroll and aren't afraid to say "hell no" to the kid. Neither Britney nor Lindsay had those kind of parents.

Click on the drop-down to select February 1. Mine looked like that too until I clicked to actually open the day.

Oh... and Elyzabeth, I totally hear you. But I can also remember being grounded the night when Shaun Cassidy's Hardy Boys character came out of his coma and SOBBING. There are days when I remember all too well what it was like to be that age.

Re Hannah Montana: Marketing Genius

I guess I'm lucky that J.K. Rowling doesn't play games like that. My girls have not been denied anything Harry Potter because it didn't require a second mortgage for them to do the midnight party or get an early book.

That's their thing, thankfully. Number two likes Hannah montana the show, but hates the music.
