Wait- I never bought them before. Never mind. Yes, he sounds like an ass. Which puts him in some fine company. |

| | Re Why I now hate Wycleff Jean... | | I think the issue is that he invited hot female fans on stage, and then said "not if you weigh 200 pounds". Did he think he was being cute? Did he only want skinny hot chicks? If he had said "not if you're black," or "not if you're Jewish," would that have sounded different?

| | Re Why I now hate Wycleff Jean... | | Can you picture yourself in this situation? You are a fan of a musician, and he asks the "fine ladies" to get on stage. Wouldn't you go up? Wouldn't you be hurt if he then said "not if you weigh 200 lbs"? I don't weigh 200lbs. Even when I was skinny enough to wear sexy little club clothes, that would have made me uncomfortable.
The guy is an asshole. That's why I hate Wycleff Jean. His prerogative, and my prerogative. |

| It wouldn't OCCUR to me to get on stage at my present weight at a rap show. Or any show. Not climbing onstage if you are a heavyweight is a given. He shouldn't have had to say anything. I think the "fat acceptance" movement is one of the worst things to happen to us as a country. |

| | Re Why I now hate Wycleff Jean... | | Also, I'm betting he has absolutely no idea what 200 pounds even looks like. I was just waiting in line at the grocery store and took a gander at Pierce Brosnan's wife who is "5' 8" and 180 pounds" and laughed until I cried. That girl doesn't weigh 180 unless she's 4' tall. More like 275 or so. |

| | Re Why I now hate Wycleff Jean... | | I have to agree that is not 180, especially at her height.

Why do we care if he doesn't want fat chicks on stage?? His show, his prerogative. | Why would we care if he doesn't want black chicks on stage? His show his perogative.
Why would we care if he wants hot chicks on stage so tells the Jewish chicks to get off stage.
All discrimatory issues could be stated, "Why do we care because it is the people's perogative to feel or talk that way.
I guess you're right because you agree with him that there's too much issue with fat discrimination. So since YOU agree, I guess there's no issue for anyone else. Margaret has the right to state and feel as she does and many people might agree with her. |

| | Re Why I now hate Wycleff Jean... | | We always claim that weight discrimination is the same as race, but you can't change your race, so that is an invalid comparison in that regard.
And again, I really think he has no idea what 200 pounds looks like. I don't think most men do. I remember when Kirstie Alley first started with Jenny Craig I was INCENSED at how much she was still lying about her weight.
We also aren't sure if he meant it by looks or by safety measures... I would assume security would have to help people on and off the stage.
I'm fat. I know I'm fat. And I wouldn't dream of going up on stage for people to look at me. |

| | Re Why I now hate Wycleff Jean... | | Even if it was based on safety concerns, there were nicer, more subtle ways of making sure the stage didn't get loaded past capacity besides announcing "No fat chicks" over the open microphone.

| | Re Why I now hate Wycleff Jean... | | I'd rather be "humiliated" over a live mic before I even thought about it than when a security guard dropped me on my fat ass 'cuz he couldn't lift me to the stage. I'm just saying. |

I don't know who Wycleff Jean but he/she needs a lesson in public relations.

But, of course, he didn't.

| | Re Why I now hate Wycleff Jean... | | I don't see that any size acceptance movement has made much difference at all in how most people see "fat" people. It doesn't matter if studies show being too thin is unhealthy, or that not all overweight or even obese people are unhealthy. It is just not stylish to be heavy. The beauty standards for women have dropped something like ten pounds a year for forever. Sturdy cheerleaders off the farm who were the beauty icons of the fifties would be considered real fatties now. The fact of the matter is that our body images are marketable commodities. How we feel about our bodies is used to make us spend money on anything from body shapers to special food, when we just need to be strong, flexible and healthy. We should be saying "Use it or lose it!" instead of "Lose it or get lost!"
