I'm not sure how many of you have HBO, but right now, there is a wonderful documentary playing on HBO that I enjoyed. It's called Hear and Now. It's about a 65-year-old deaf couple who decide to get cochlear implants and try to hear for the first time.
One thing I was surprised to learn was that the man is the guy who invented the TTY, which allows deaf people to use the telephone.
One of the funnier moments in the movie is when the audiologist turns on their implants for the first time and speaks to the woman. He asks her if his voice sounds like a click or a beep. Uh, hello? The woman has been deaf since birth. How in heck is she going to know what a click or a beep sounds like? The look on her face was priceless.
