Californication

Californication

rules! I just watched all 12 half hour episodes back to back to back. Lost the husband when he went to take a nap and I just couldn't stop. Snooze you lose, ya know.

I'd heard good things about it but ........ wow. Another one for the short list. A quick plot summary "blocked writer living in California having a lot of sex" doesn't even start to do justice. Maybe when I'm less zausted I'll try harder.

Anybody else? (heads up - graphic sexuality generous throughout)

Shoulda been nominated. Dexter should win but Californication should have been nominated.

LOL, I thought maybe this was a discussion of the RHCP song. Love that song. Must download.

Re Californication

Leslie - LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE starts to do it justice.

Lynn - song be good, too!

Okay, here's my first stab at why I LOVE LOVE LOVE this show so much. My number one favorite theme is redemption. Most of the recent amazing television dramas incorporate or tease at redemption (Dexter being the biggest player), but spend most of their energy on barreling down the good/bad, black/white barriers. Sopranos, Shield, Deadwood, certainly Dexter, et all.

This show. What spoke to me was Everyman journeying back to the light and redemption after having gotten lost along the way.

I wasn't expecting any of this. I thought it was a fluffy show about California sex. No!

I love Hank Moody. I want to marry him, or have sex with him, or be his best friend. Haven't decided which yet.

Re Californication

Californication and Saving Grace are both two great shows about redemption

Re Californication

I love it too. For me it's mostly about how David Duchovny plays the role. He's got that air of knowing that the universe is just waiting to punch him out, but he's not quite given up yet. And his friends and relatives haven't quite given up on him yet either.

Re Californication

hi Hymie! You've nailed it - it IS how he plays the role that makes the show. I feel the same about Holly Hunter - her acting helps me suspend belief about the odd angel portion of the storyline enough to enjoy the theme of redemption and misery and all underneath. Of the two I think Californication is the better show overall. I also like the actress who plays the daughter on Californication.
