*Not* Steve Perry

So last night I went to a concert. Y'all know I'm a concert junkie, and this one caught my attention. Fairly small venue (well, probably 6,000 as opposed to the normal 20,000 concerts I go to).

Cheap Trick - most excellent. Rick Nielsen made me smile...a different guitar for every song, "Surrender" being what I wanted to hear, and they didn't disappoint. I need to dig out an old copy of Live at Buddakan (sp) and toss it on my iPod.

Heart - O M G. The Wilson girls (okay, really not girls at 50+ but what-ever) were totally, completely awesome. Still have the vocals, the guitar solos, the stage presence. The ticket price was well worth just seeing them. Ann Wilson's vocals are incredible...no loss of range. Nancy's guitar playing is unbelievable. If you have a chance, go see them.

Journey - honestly, I was disappointed. And why? Because the new lead singer sounds a LOT like Steve Perry (close your eyes on some songs and he's the man), but he's *not* Steve Perry. And I don't think Journey can be Journey without Steve Perry. I felt sort of badly, because the new guy is good, but he will probably forever be compared to Perry. Perry to me is a bit like Steven Tyler...love the voice, but put a bag over the head.

So that's what I did last night. I would see Heart again in a heartbeat. Journey, notsomuch.

Wow!

This is *so* cool. Sorry about the "not Steve Perry" part but how cool is this.

You had me at Heart.

Re *Not* Steve Perry

Heart was just at Prairie Meadows this past weekend, but I was unable to go.

REO Speedwagon and Little River Band were here last Wednesday, and I was not going to go, because they claimed to have sold 8,800 tickets to Prairie Meadows (was a fundraiser for the Iowa flood victims) and the venue is not that large. I did not want to fight the crowds.

From what I heard, all of the shows were excellent. In a way, I wish I would have gone. But, oh well!

One of my fav concerts ever was Heart. Their Brigade album, in their home town (Seattle) and full of huge fans. I'm fairly sure the tickets sold out crazy early and I only got a ticket because my friends were big fans. Cheap Trick opened (coincidentally) and were good too. Glad to hear that they still have it.
