I'm a Sucker for Variety Shows

I think I may be one of the few people in the country watching 'America's Got Talent'. I'm not a fan of the whole nasty judges, bad auditions thing. But, I do love a variety show. American Idol gets a bit old for me cause it's just singing. I like shows that have magic, singing, weird acts, etc.

It's nice to put something on the television and not have to worry if the kids see it. It's nice to have something a bit fluffy and light in my life. Maybe it's cause I was raised in the era of the Carol Burnett Show, The Donny and Marie Show and others.

Does anybody else watch this stuff? Or am I a total throwback to another era?

I'm watching it, but not religiously. I agree- it is great to be able to have something on prime time television that I can let the kids watch! The girls love those stupid ZooperPals, or whatever they are called.

Your former intern loves the show. Has since it first aired. We are watching it too, but it isn't the same without him.

I kinda liked the one a while back. I forget what it was called. It was on FOX though. It was pretty neat because they had all sorts of really good performers (like magicians, etc) and it reminded me of a circus. They each did their act and then the best liked ones did a play off at the end. The judges weren't snarky because it was essentially audience voted and all of the performers were good. Well, a good portion of them anyhow. Really weird acts but it was fun.

I've been mostly avoiding the slew of comps (and reality shows) lately though. I was pretty annoyed that they bumped all of my shows off the air, killing Heroes midseason (not cancelling but it is obvious that they abbreviated the storyline a good bit) and cancelling Bionic Woman and Journeyman (and I was into both to some degree).

I enjoy some of them. I like the "I Survived a Japanese Gameshow".

But, nothing will every compare to Carol Burnett..no matter how hard they want to try to emulate that show!
