| | I won tickets to a meet and greet with Charlie Daniels today from a local radio station. It's apparently a gala celebration and there's food and open bar, and then Charlie Daniels will perform.
When I won the tickets they made me prove I was a Charlie Daniels fan, but, didn't suggest how I do that... I thought for a second and I said "if you give me those tickets, I'll rosen up my bow and play my fiddle hard." They laughed and agreed I deserve them.
I'm taking my dad because he's a bigger fan of CDB than anyone else I know. Needless to say, we're very excited. I'm nervous however. Any gala I've been to was either business, or formal... never a concert with Charlie Daniels.
Now if I only knew what I was supposed to wear to something like this. |

| | Just wear a McCain/Palin t-shirt and you'll be in w/ Charlie. And don't forget the chaw. |

| | May I just say, I'm jealous.
And thanks ever so much for earworm. (It's a good earworm - that's one of my fave songs!)

| | What's chaw? Do I even want to know?
I think I need to buy fatbabys. I'm so sad, because I worked in Tractor Supply on Saturday doing a demo... they had fatbabys on sale for $50. They had the pair I wanted, with the ostrich looking leather on sale They had my size. I went back on Sunday, and they were reduced even more! They were clearanced down to $25. Of course, they didn't have my size any more... not in the ostrich, and not in any other "look" either. Doh!
I thought nice jeans, the fatbabys and idk what on top... but something relatively nice... it might be a CDB concert, but it's in an extremely rich town, and the tickets are $250, to benefit the local playhouse. I don't think I'll be rubbing elbows with people in tank tops or chewing tobacco. |

| | For your top, go with a nice western style blouse or western print t-shirt.
I found these two at The Fort (retail store is in Lincoln NE but they have online ordering too)
Sounds like fun...when is the concert?

| | It's October 11.
The clothing choices above are very nice, but I think maybe under-dressed. I asked a resident of the town what people wear to it and she said "very nice clothes. Not black tie, but very nice clothes." :s I asked her "like a nice skirt with a nice blouse?" and she said that would work. She added "if you wear jeans -- even designer jeans, you'll feel under-dressed."
Chaw is new -- but then again, I've never met someone who chewed tobacco. Didn't they ever see the people on tv with no jaws from having chewed tobacco and getting cancer? Yuck. |

| | You can do a pretty western dress instead of jeans then. I'll try to remember to do some searches tomorrow, but a "broomstick" skirt and flowy blouse would be nice.

Believe me, the first blouse/jacket and a nice pair of jeans and boots (if you got 'em) will suit a Charlie Daniels occasion better than what everyone tells you you need to wear.
And grab a pack of Big League Chew bubble gum and offer Charlie a pinch when you are introduced to him. He will find you the only 'real person' in the crowd ...from the sounds of the advice others are giving...
...tom...

| | Oh Tom, if you only knew how bizarre that town is. For example, one night I went to a pub in the town. A pub! It was pretty much a dive. It was set up like most pubs, with one side having tables for diners, and a bar that ran the length of one side. Several men sat at the bar watching television. I assumed, without more than a glance in their direction that they were watching sports.
After we had settled in, I began to realize they were not watching sports, they were watching the cooking channel The men actually cheered when the chef on tv put butter in the recipe. "Yeah!!! Butter!" It was the most bizarre thing.
I don't know where the people in that town came from, but it's truly its own world.
Anyhow, back to the clothing front... I really don't have any money for new clothes (I just really wanted the fatbabys anyway, lol). I do have brown suede slouchy boots that are somewhat cowboy-esque. I think I will wear those with a long brown skirt and... something. I have a pretty lace top that I could wear. I just can't think of the right piece of clothing (that I own) to wear under it. The lace top is one of those that is like a blouse, but it only has 1 button and a ribbon that ties around the middle.
I think that might kill the classy bird, the country bird, and the "something I'll actually be comfortable in" bird all with one stone. I hope.
Now I just wonder if I should wear my cowboy hat Can you wear woven cowboy hats after labor day? |

This is what I meant by "lace shirt" because I know that that could sound so much more provocative than it is...
Mine is similar. My bow is the same color as the shirt, however. |

| | I think that would be good with a brown suede-look skirt if you have it. And the boots.
White cowboy hats (straw or otherwise) are fine any time of year.

| | Tonight is the night.
I am wearing a long chocolate brown skirt (different than the one I first thought of), a chocolate brown tank top, and an orange blazer that's made out of that ... it's like velvet but it's corderoy (sp?) I dunno what you call that, but it's pretty. That and my dark brown boots... they're like a slouchy version of cowboy boots, but with the metal things on them like motorcycle boots. They are appropriate for almost every occasion. I love them!
I'm getting very excited for this concert and much less worried about clothing (unless it's really cold outside... because I think we're seated in tents...) |

| | I keep calling it couch fabric. My great great aunt had this couch that I think was from the 1920s and it had this fabric. It looks like velvet with a pattern crushed into it. Mine is damask style leaves printed into it. But when you look closely, it's not velvet, it's actually really thin courdoroy. I tried to find the jacket online so I could show you but I can't locate it. |

| | That's probably it, Melanie.
My pictures are in a mess right now, most are turned sideways and they're all out of order... so I need more time to edit them, but I thought I'd show you a few highlights from last night.
Here's when Charlie came into the VIP tent and sat down to sign autographs and take pictures:
Edit: Crap! I don't know why that is still sideways!!!
Here's a video I took last night
The end of the video is where my camera batteries were exhausted | |
