Writing To Be Published

Hey Guys,

I apologize if I have posted this in the wrong place. For once, I'm not MEANING to do that .

For the past year, I've been writing what I guess you could call a novel. I didn't do it for any other reason then to see if I could do it. While I could post bits and pieces on WBM, I'm looking to take it a bit farther.

I've never had dreams of being a bonafide writer, but now that I have this in front of me, I want to be able to do something with it, know what I mean Vern?!

Advice? Thoughts?

Thanks, Kristina

Go for it! First, find somebody you trust to read it and critique it. When you think its the best it can be, find a publisher and send it out. They have books that tell you which publishers accept what. And good luck!

Wow, Kristina. I'm impressed! So what's this novel about? I would love to be able to write children's novels, but so far haven't been inspired.

You go girl!

I'm not recommending this site, just giving you the information:

http://ipublish.com/

It's part of Time Warner books. It's got an Epinions/WBMish feel to it.....I think the idea is, you could get noticed by the editors and have your book published as an eBook.

Disclaimer: before I published anything there that I cared about, I'd go over the legal agreement with a fine tooth comb so I knew what I was giving away. I haven't done so, but I understand that you are automatically giving them rights to your second book, too.

Noticed Epinionators over there, and yes, I joined as "pluckyduck". I almost picked a more respectible name, but oh, there are my fans to think about. You know, the legions that follow me from site to site that I join but never write on. I'm pluckyduck everywhere.

Andrea
currently published exclusively on Epinions.com, and then only very sporadically

Hey! I'm the only person I know who walks around saying "know what I mean, Vern?"

People look back at me like, "um, my name isn't Vern".

It would probably be good if you could get an agent.

My friend Carla published her first novel as an e-book with DLJPress.

Her agent's name is Sidney, but I'm not sure of Sidney's last name (and Carla is on a book signing tour right now.)

She signed a contract which guaranteed that her e-book would go to hard copy if it were selling well.

It is now in trade paperback, about to go into standard-size paperback.

She also sent it to many Hollywood producers, and 15 of them are currently considering it for a movie.

She said you could find agents at writers' conferences, but I could try to find out more about Sidney (whose e-mail I used to have) when she answers my e-mail.

Wow! Thanks you guys!

What I've written *I think* is pretty cool . Of course, I am BIASED but hey - that's just how I feel.

Jenninca - it's a story based upon three people - the mom, dad, and kid. Every chapter alternates between their three points of views of what is going on in their lives. Of course, it all revolves around a "something". Tee heee hee!

Fraz - the word "agent" scares me. I feel like I need some "justification" that I even deserve to be in the same room with an agent before I would seek one out . Yes, I would like to know about this Sydney and if you're friend is ever online, I sure would like to talk to her about her experiences!

Pluckster - I will check out that site you recommended.

You might also check out iuniverse.com. You only pay $99 to get published in paperback, but I can attest to the quality. I also am a voracious editor so my novel reads well. Read the contract carefully; you might not like all the things entailed.

Good luck! I know how great you're feeling now from the accomplishment.

Dissenting voice here. I think you should try your hand at publishers that don't expect you to pay them. It should be the other way around.
