| | | Rest in Peace, author of A Separate Peace | | John Knowles died Thursday at the age of 75... he's best known for writing "A Separate Peace" but I'm interested in whether anybody's read any of his other books and what they thought of them. |

| | Sadly, I haven't even read A Separate Peace (I had a very strange high school English program, I guess---we read Updike). But, as with Eudora Welty, I should probably take this time to honor Mr. Knowles by picking up a copy of one of his books. |

| | I've not read any of his works, either, but I am familiar (I did see the movie version of A Separate Peace).
I shall go find a copy and read. |

| | I read Indian Summer as an adult; don't remember much about it...A Separate Peace was quite disturbing to me as an teen, but I won't spoil the story for Grouch.
David, you must have had quite the lit teachers. I seem to recall you were never subjected to Holden Caulfield either!

Lynn | Correct. I read Catcher for the first time this year.
But, hey, at least I didn't wait until Salinger was dead to do it.... |

I was answering the phones at work one day when a guy called. He asked to speak to Jean, my boss, and I could tell by the background noise that he was a telemarketer. So I did the, "Who's calling please?" thing and he replied, "Holden Caulfield."
I said, "Uh, you mean like in Catcher in the Rye?"
And he hung up.
That was probably my strange telephone call ever.
