Your old music cannot sustain you through a life, not if you're someone who listens to music every day, at every opportunity. You need input, because pop music is about freshness, about Nelly Furtado and the maddeningly memorable fourth track on a first album by a band you saw on a late-night TV show. And no, that fourth track is not as good as anything on Pet Sounds or Blonde on Blonde or What's Going On, but when was the last time you played Pet Sounds? - Songbook by Nick Hornby

Doesn't anyone find it scary that someone (or someones)_ actually took the time to do this?! If we harnessed that brainpower and energy for other causes, we'd have no oil crisis, peace on earth, and ... oh well.

I haven't gone back to the site yet, but as memory serves, it was done years ago to prove the sociology theory that everyone on earth was no more than 6 other people removed from another. They just happened to pick young Bacon. They could've used any actor who had been in several dozen movies.

The whole six degrees thing is fascinating. Think about the town or city you live in. Do you know the mayor or someone who does? Does the mayor know the governor or a senator? So 3 or 4 jumps to Bush. It's interesting when you start thinking to yourself: Who do I know that I could use for access to so and so?

If I remember the original paper correctly (the Virginia guys didn't do it, we're talking old stuff), there were a series of nodes - people in a particular area, not necessarily famous in themselves - who knew lots of folks.

Think about Bill Gates for a minute and use Epinions. I'll pick on Amy and pretend that she actually knows Nirav. She may or may not, but let's pretend for a second. Given his past connections, Nirav either knows Gates or knows someone who can get him to Gates. Thus, Amy's link to Gates through that series is 2 or 3. Mind you, she'll have some convincing to do in order to get Gates to pony up $50 million for the EA rights, but she's persuasive.

The Gates family and my family grew up three blocks away from each other in Seattle - I'm a contemporary of his sister, Libby. Does that count?

I have a Bacon number of about 4.

1. I have a sister named Jackie.
2. Jackie babysat Larry Hagman's niece and nephew
3. Larry Hagman was in Nixon (1995) with Peter P. Starson Jr.
4. Peter P. Starson Jr. was in We Married Margo (2000) with Kevin Bacon

So it's a stretch But I did it.

My Bacon number is also 4 --

1) Kalynda knows screenwriter Alan Ball
2) Alan Ball knows wrote the screenplay for Ameican Beauty starring Kevin Spacey who has a Bacon number of 2.

or

I know Amy
She has a Bacon number of 4.
So even if Kalynda is mad at me, my number is 5.

OOOOH OOOH! I just improved my Bacon number!

When I was 13, I met Reba McEntire TWICE.

She has a Bacon number of 1!

I have a Bacon number of 2 Which gives ALL of you at least a three

Fascinating stuff!
I even tried "fooling" the system by plugging in names like Theda Bara, Paulette Goddard and Charlie Chaplin. They call came up with Bacon numbers of 4 or below.

Even The Shiek is close:
Rudolph Valentino was in Monsieur Beaucaire (1924) with John (I) Davidson
John (I) Davidson was in Prince Valiant (1954) with Robert Wagner
Robert Wagner was in Wild Things (1998) with Kevin Bacon

Gah.

Well, it doesn't hurt that Kevin Bacon has been in films with a seriously ****wide**** variety of stars. I think it would be tough to find another star that has been in such a bunch of oddball films with pretty big name actors.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm...
I ended up with three Kevin Bacons of three (Heh heh:P Aside from Amy). Two are kinda tenuous though.

I saw Carol Channing in Pike Place Market one time, She was in Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club with Steve Martin. Steve Martin is in Novacaine with Kevin Bacon.

I saw George Carlin perform live, he was in Godzilla with Kevin Dunn, Kevin Dunn was in Stir of Echoes with Kevin Bacon

My second cousins were extras in The Postman with Kevin Costner. Kevin Costner was in JFK with Kevin Bacon.

Ummmm... Another one would be that my Mom was an extra in some film or another with Shirley MacLeane who was in Bruno with Joanne Pankow who was in Digging to China with Kevin Bacon. Four but a bit more direct than second cousins

I've got a Bacon number of 2, if you stretch things a wee bit. I saw Holly Hunter at a screening of "Living Out Loud," and she was in "The End of the Line" with Mr. Bacon.

If you wanna talk actual interaction, I've got a Bacon number of 4. My friend Kim was once smiled at by John Travolta (she's a big fan and almost fainted on the spot), Mr. Travolta was in "The Thin Red Line" with Elias Koteas, and Mr. Koteas was in "Novocaine" with Mr. Bacon.

And of course there's the EA connection through Amy.

Ok, does this count? Because if it does, then I have a very good Bacon factor.

Demi Moore lived in my town with Bruce Willis. Sometimes I saw Demi walking. Demi has a Bacon factor of 1, so if it counts, I have a Bacon factor of two.

There is also that guy that was in Tootsie. He lives in a town near mine, on the same road as a friend. I see him walking his dog all the time, disguise and all. I just can't think of his name, lol. If I could remember him, I'd look him up and find out my Bacon factor through him.

If you want to be more presice

1. I know my mom.
2. My mom met Gilda Radner several times before she passed away.
3. Gilda Radner was in Movers and Shakers (1985) with Steve Martin
4. Steve Martin was in Novocaine (2001) with Kevin Bacon

Or there is always the fact that I know Amy

OOoh! Tootsie... that was Dustin Hoffman. He lives in Roxbury CT on my friends road. He has a Bacon factor of 2, because of the movie Sleepers, which was also shot near me. I even drove through the set accidentially (I didn't realize it was still closed) and had a lot of 'splaining to do to a cop about why I ignored the signs (I didn't see them, honest).

So, I drove through the set where Kevin Bacon filmed Sleepers while they were filming. Does that give me a Bacon factor of 1?

OOoh! AND, a lot of the boys I went to HS with were extras in the movie Sleepers. So that would give me a Bacon factor of 2.

Wow. I'm pretty important.

Margaret, who could also be a daughter of the American Revolution, if such a distinction mattered to her enough to submit proof.
