EMI Re-Releasing "My Sweet Lord"

EMI said they would re-release George Harrison's My Sweet Lord as a tribute to the deceased musician. Proceeds will reportedly be donated to a still unspecified charity.

Reuters is quoting a British retailer as saying that the release will be a "sure fire number one" if done before Christmas. That's not a lot of time, particularly given the number of copies in existence today.

Would you buy a CD single? There's a parallel somewhere to Elton John's Candle In The Wind, but at least that version was different. Would it be better for EMI to simply state that it will serve as the clearinghouse (and perhaps match at some level) donations to a charity picked by the Harrison family?

Your old music cannot sustain you through a life, not if you're someone who listens to music every day, at every opportunity. You need input, because pop music is about freshness, about Nelly Furtado and the maddeningly memorable fourth track on a first album by a band you saw on a late-night TV show. And no, that fourth track is not as good as anything on Pet Sounds or Blonde on Blonde or What's Going On, but when was the last time you played Pet Sounds? - Songbook by Nick Hornby

I used to buy lots of CD singles. Given the money (alas, in short supply right now) I'd likely buy this one, too.

I would. I'd like to have that one. I used to have the album that song was on. But I sold all my Beatles cd's and records (and the one George Harrison album used to have). I needed the money. What a fool I was.

I often want just one song off cd's and would rather not pay for the whole.

This was a great hint to clubber6336 for a christmas present!
