| | What's the worst cover you've ever heard?
For the moment, I'd say Frank Sinatra's cover of "Mrs. Robinson," followed closely by his cover of "Yesterday" (yes, the Lennon-McCartney tune). Not because there's anything wrong with them musically ... they're just wrong.

That's just WRONG!
[as opposed to the same cover by All Saints, which was kinda nice]

| | The Dixie Chicks version of Sheryl Crow's "Strong Enough" bothers me a lot.
Bruce Dickenson's (former Iron Maiden frontman) version of Mott the Hoople's(is that the right name for the band?) "All the Young Dudes."
Dylan's version of Watchtower. Ok, so that's not a cover. It's really his song. However, Hendrix and the Dead did such better (and more well known) versions of the song. |

I think any William Shatner bit has to qualify as the worst cover of any of those songs. |

| | Any country group doing a rock and roll song. Irritates me to no end.
There was some twang-head who did a cover of the Aerosmith song from Armegedon (my mind is just one total blank). I didn't like the original much, but I REALLY hated the cover.

| | Well, I thoroughly embarrassed myself while talking down a *cover*. Was in the store one day a couple of months ago, and heard someone doing matchbox20's 3 am. Sounded absolutely horrible.
Now, the version of that song I listen to is the live version. Off one of the Live in the X-Lounge CDs. Which is totally awesome btw, all of them are.
Found out the artist that *covered* 3 am. Was matchbox20.
Yetch.
I much prefer the live version.

| | Oh! And as much as I adore Creed, their cover of Ramble On simply sucks in a putrid and very stinky manner.
The vocalist is ok, guitar - ok.
But they need to dump the drummer.
Desperately.
'Tis embarrassing how the lead singer had to set the beat and have the drummer trailing behind, lost.

| | Leonard Nimoy's version of It Was a Very Good Year. No wait. Shatner's version. No wait, I know...
Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner singing It Was a Very Good Year together (and yes, all three versions exist and they all stink to high heaven).
I can't stand Pearl Jam's version of The Last Kiss. It's way to freakin slow!
I'm sure I'm forgetting some really awful ones, but that's all I can think of right now. |

| | Yep, 1984's Rhinestone. According to the IMDB listing, Stallone and Parton had four duets.

| | Although I love his covers and his voice, David Bowie absoluely massacred The Beach Boys' God Only Knows.
I have a bad cover mix tape somewhere that I have to go find now.... tra la la.
Aha - one more before I go: Michael Bolton. Everything after the title track from Soul Provider. I don't mean the album, I mean everything in his career. |

| | Come to think of it, the Limp Bizkit version of Wish You Were Here on Tribute to Heroes could have been really good. But it wasn't, and they were out of tune. |

| | A Christian artist, Cindy Morgan, did what I believe I understand to be a cover now that I did not like at all. She did England Dan and John Ford Coley's Love is the Answer. I just love England Dan and John Ford Coley's version too much to hear it done any other way.

| | I know I just can't harp on Muzak enough but I've heard some amazingly horrid covers in there.
First off, there's this one that Cher does of a song that I think was originally done by the Eagles or Don Henley, the one that says "Standing in your shadow, unlocking the night, though I kept on trying I could not make it right for this girl, there's just not enough love in the world."
Then there's Rod Stewart's version of Elton John's "Your Song".
Then there's some weird guy's version of "Have I Told You Lately that I Love You". Maybe Elton John hired him to get back at Rod Stewart for doing "Your Song", I don't know.
Then there's Jessica Simpson's hacking job on "Jack & Diane" although that's not really a cover. |

| | Someone please put me out of my agony. I just did a search on the word "cover" and came up with slip cover, duvet cover, life cover, head cover, seat cover, table covering, and even a cell phone cover - all of which have nothing to do with a recording.
What exactly is a cover? Please?

| | According to Merriam Webster:
cover version
n.
A recording of a song that was previously recorded or made popular by another. Also called cover song.
Feel better?

| | Well, since we are on the subject of dismal covers--and William Shatner ...
His cover of Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds would make most sane people seek out shelter below ground.
And didn't Shatner do Blowin' in the Wind?
The mind boggles...
