Diamond Albums

NO, not Neil.

You've heard of gold records (500,000 units sold) and platinum (1,000,000), but what in the world is a diamond album? Easy - too many platinum albums and a way for the industry to get more press releases out the door. I've now switched my gift preference. I no longer want a platinum album at auction. I now want a diamond album.

And how many units must one sell for diamond? Oh, ten million. Jeepers!

Here are the diamond certifications just made:
  • Led Zeppelin - box set (their 5th diamond)
  • The Eagles - Eagles Greatest Hits, Vol II (2nd diamond)
  • Madonna - The Immaculate Collection (also her 2nd)
  • Aerosmith - Aerosmith's Greatest Hits (their first, good job boys)
  • Kid Rock - Devil Without A Cause (never underestimate teens or radio)

BTW, neither Frampton nor Fleetwood Mac nor Michael Jackson own the top spot in US album sales anymore. That distinction belongs to The Eagles, whose first volume of Greatest Hits sold 27 million copies.

Your old music cannot sustain you through a life, not if you're someone who listens to music every day, at every opportunity. You need input, because pop music is about freshness, about Nelly Furtado and the maddeningly memorable fourth track on a first album by a band you saw on a late-night TV show. And no, that fourth track is not as good as anything on Pet Sounds or Blonde on Blonde or What's Going On, but when was the last time you played Pet Sounds? - Songbook by Nick Hornby

Shake

Kid Rock?

Is that a person, a group, or a concept (like Schoolhouse Rock)?

I am so not with it any more...

Kid Rock, he's Pamela Anderson's latest squeeze...has been since April I hear.

But, he sings grunge/rap/metal...definitely not for all tastes.

(Shocked me that he was "diamond")

Kid rock is an over the top rocker. Very much into the southern rock thing, but with an edge. I personally don't like him, but he's very popular. The music doesn't bother me, but doesn't excite me either. I am surprised he has sold that many copies, but not totally shocked.

As for the Eagles, I've had 3 copies (personally) of their Greatest Hits 1971-1975 album, and I wasn't born until 1978. I've owned it on vinyl, cassette and cd. Both my parents have owned at least two copies (both had albums before they were married, mom bought the cassette when she bought her first car that had a cassette player, and dad bought it when he bought his first cd player). I think my family helped this album go diamond The three of us have bought seven copies!
