Was it me, or did Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve just suck?

I watched this on TiVo (my wishlist picks up any DMB showing), and I was apalled at the low quality.

First, the canned concerts were really so-so. Madonna had no umph, Destiny's Child was terrible, and it was hardly the best DMB performance I have seen. On the other hand, Aerosmith, Barry Manilow (yes Barry) and Britney Spears (yes Britney) were all pretty good.

Second, after every single act, Dick Clark would say "You can see them on Jan 9 at the American Music Awards". Over and over. And these were hardly great plugs

Third, Dick Clark just droned on and on. As they panned to each locale, he would say stupid things like "There's Jessica Simpson! Hi Jessica!" ... no response...

After the ball dropped, he kept giving ongoing play by play that uninteresting and stupid.

All in all, pretty lame.

Anyone disagree?

We watched Shrek with the kids and tuned in to Fox News at 11:59 and change.

Your old music cannot sustain you through a life, not if you're someone who listens to music every day, at every opportunity. You need input, because pop music is about freshness, about Nelly Furtado and the maddeningly memorable fourth track on a first album by a band you saw on a late-night TV show. And no, that fourth track is not as good as anything on Pet Sounds or Blonde on Blonde or What's Going On, but when was the last time you played Pet Sounds? - Songbook by Nick Hornby

I've never found the Dick Clark specials particularly enticing. Who/What is DMB?

DMB = Dave Matthews Band.

About 15 years ago, I briefly met Dick Clark. Sad to say, but up close he didn’t look entirely human. Way too many facelifts? An alien from Tau Alpha Seti posing as a human?
