People's Choice Awards

I'm beginning to wonder just when somebody is going to say enough is enough when it comes to awards shows.

Did anyone catch the People's Choice "awards?" What a JOKE! Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks as favorite actor and actress? Neither of them has really even DONE anything big this year! Jason Alexander nominated for his stupid sitcom?? Oprah as a TV performer??

Where do they come up with this stuff? Are there no standards for voting and nominating?

What I wonder most is.... why some of these big stars even bother showing up to the stupid thing. Between this, AFI Awards, Blockbuster Awards, Golden Globes, MTV, VH1....

It's not even worth watching anymore.

The really sad thing, though?? ALL of these shows are far less boring (ie, more watchable) than the Oscars!!

My favorites are the Golden Globes. There's enough wine at the tables that the honorees and presenters are usually three sheets to the wind by the time they show up on stage - makes for much more interesting viewing...

It's the People's Choice, so apparently not.

There are more awards programmes in Hollywood than days of the year. Last count there were over 400 different awards programmes that have banquets, ceremonies, etc. Perhaps they're gearing up for the 500-channel television phenomenon. The all-award channel!

Though I can't speak from the viewpoint of a Hollywood star who gets to dress in overpriced yet cool clothes, be interviewed by Joan Rivers and sit next to Brad Pitt...

it's still been my general experience that actually sitting through banquets and awards ceremonies (for whatever) is painfully boring. So again I wonder why so many of the Hollywood types make regular appearances at these things. Of course, I guess it's pretty much part of Hollywood politics, but still... it would definitely be a part of the job I'd hate.

With the exception, of course, of the Golden Globes and the free-flowing wine bottles...

Where's MNM when you need her? We could sure use an insider's perspective on this stuff.
