The Coen Brothers direct a commercial | | This just in (today's IMDb Studio Brief): Quirky Filmmakers Produce Super Bowl Ad Famed indie filmmakers the Coen Brothers (Fargo, O Brother, Where Art Thou? The Man Who Wasn't There), who are used to working on shoestring budgets, hired 97 actors and 60 crew members and shot more than 8,000 feet of film for a 30-second commercial (45 feet of film) that is due to air on Feb. 3 during the Super Bowl, according to a news release by H&R Block, the company featured in the spot. The commercial, which employs the Beatles' recording of "Taxman," focuses on recent changes to the U.S. tax system. The news release quoted the Coens as saying (presumably tongue-in-cheek), "We have always been fascinated with the mysteries of the tax code and with the people who struggle so mightily to plumb its depths."
