Where are Sendak's Wild Things?

In a New York museum!

The 73-year-old author and illustrator finally gets his day behind glass.

Heh, I've met Sendak. He's a nice man. Not to mention how fantastic his work is, especially Where the Wild Things Are.

Now, scroll up at that picture Grouch posted. Look closely at it. Notice anything striking??

No? Keep looking?

Do you see it?

That's right, the wild thing he is standing in front of in that picture is his self-portrait. In fact, when I met him, I couldn't stop think that. I didn't want to offend him "Hey, you look like the monster-guy in your book", so I kept my mouth shut. Eventually, he revealed it to me, and I smiled politely and said "I thought maybe it was a self-portrait."

That's cool!

He has such creative work that I imagine he'd be an interesting peron to meet.

One of my son's favorite books is illustrated by Sendak: What Do You Say, Dear?. I really need to get him a copy of Where the Wild Things Are though. Such a classic!

my favorite quote...

Quote:
By the time Sendak, who worked as a window dresser at F.A.O. Schwarz instead of going to college...
I wonder why my guidance counselor never gave me that option...

I am glad to read that the exhibit is more than just his books under glass -- that just wouldn't be right. My favorite Sendak, though, is In the Night Kitchen. What an amazing, tasty world he creates. Everytime I find myself awake at 3 AM (as I did this morning) I find myself in a world made up of sacks of flour, cartons of milk and cake mix.

Where does one get such neat jobs as window designer for FAO Schwartz, and the like?

I never see them listed in my paper.
