Mystery Movie #69

Grouch just told me I was up at bat (arggh), after having guessed Mystery Movie #68. I'm new at this, so please be gentle. I'll try to be thorough and accurate for you.

The movie is one I've viewed in the past year, so it's relatively fresh in my mind.

Guess away!

Is it a comedy?

Is it in color?

How do you define "gentle"?

Is it in English?

Any Oscar nominations? If so, any wins?

Mystery Movie #69 clues

Is it a comedy? No. Well, not intentionally. But no, it's not classified as a comedy.

Is it in color? Yes.

How do you define "gentle"? LOL! I'll leave that to your discretion.

Is it in English? Yes.

Any Oscar nominations? Yes. If so, any wins? No.

Question! Should I note what the Oscar nomination was for? I'm not sure how far to veer from the Yes/No question format.

Merci.

How you answer is up to you, but traditionally it's been up to the guessers to narrow it down about specifics. For example:

Was the Oscar nomination (apparently there is just one) for its screenplay?

Was the movie released in theatres in the 1990s?

Was the screenplay adapted from another work?

Would you believe me that it's also traditional for the person who's running the game to pay $10 for each question asked?

Thanks, Peter.

Was the Oscar nomination (apparently there is just one Yes.) for its screenplay? No.

Was the movie released in theatres in the 1990s? No.

Was the screenplay adapted from another work? Yes.

Would you believe me that it's also traditional for the person who's running the game to pay $10 for each question asked? Sure. I'll fork over $10 @ question to the IRS, just like they get everything else. (Hehe, you didn't say who the recipient would be!)

Did the lead win any Oscars? Nominated?

Was it adapted from a play?

Well, I thought if "Best Original Song" was getting warmer...oh well. Anyway...

Was the movie released in the 1960s?
Did the lead receive her Best Supporting Actress award before the movie in question?
Was the Oscar nomination for Best Sound? Best Sound Editing?

Was the movie released in the 1960s? Yes.

Did the lead receive her Best Supporting Actress award before the movie in question? Good question. Yes.

Was the Oscar nomination for Best Sound? Best Sound Editing? You know, I didn't realize there were different Oscars for "Best Original Score" and "Best Music, Scoring of Music, Adaptation or Treatment" but there are. This movie one won the latter. (Hope I didn't give too much away.)

Is it an American film? Yes.

Did the book win any major awards (Pulitzer, etc.)? Eeyoo, what a good question! I'm sure the book didn't win any Pulitzers. As far as other 'awards' are concerned, I don't think so. Any suggestions on where I should look for this info?

OK, IMDB has got me a promising candidate here.

Is it Valley of the Dolls, released in 1967, starring Patty Duke?

SHEEZAM!!!!!! HOLY CANOLI!!!! WE'VE GOT A WINNER!!!!

Now, I hope you got your guess from the clues and not from any tracing of my links (which would mean my movie was too easy)!

Anyway, congrats! Slick work!!!!!

And so, I pass the baton to you…

Thanks, Valerie!

Don't know what you meant by "tracing of your links"...if you mean did I do a search of the EA forums, no. All I used was the clues with the help of IMDB and a list of Best Actress Oscars (Leading and Supporting) on the Net that made it a little easier.

OK. I've got a movie in mind...

Sorry, Keith, I didn't mean to diminish your skill. I just realized that, if you looked at some of my links at www.epinions.com, you might have an advantage at the answer. (Which means, I should have been sharp enough to have chosen another movie.) But you guessed it just from the clues, so it doesn't matter what my links lead to.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to playing your game now.

(Boy, you're good!)
