Independent booksellers' awards

Independent booksellers nominated 25 of their favorite books for the Book Sense Book of the Year Awards.

The usual suspects: The Corrections, Peace Like a River, Fast Food Nation, Seabiscuit, etc. I'd never heard of Ella Minnow Pea, however.

If you love words, wordplay, creative use of language and fun fiction, you'll like Dunn's Ella Minnow Pea - I loved it. Hmmmm, prehaps I sense a review buried in there somewhere (only using the legal alphabet, of course)...

In this context, what does "rediscovery" mean?

My guess is it means "Older Books Which We Think Are Valid Enough to Bring to the Public's Attention Again."
Hence, that porcine classic Freddy the Detective.

The Botany of Desire is an interesting one, too. In general I like the list.

SNOGGING??!?

Holy Flipping Moses...
Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging by Louise Rennison is a Children's lit winner? What the HECK is going on here?

Yeah yeah - Fiction is pretty straight forward... but what the hay is going on in kids lit these days? You guys KNOW what SNOGGING IS? hehe. And what's THONGS have to do with kids books? I thought kids books were all about catchy Seussian phrasology and what not. Has popular degradation reached the kiddie level? YIKES.

Pardon me whilest I melt down.

Dij ... who isn't doing well at the present moment, who's feeling a bit swoonish all of a sudden. heh.

I haven't read the book myself, but people whose opinions I trust have said its a wonderful children's book. The title, I'm afraid, might be a little misleading.

There used to be reviews on the book at Epinions. Take a quick look if you have time.

As for Satan though - I was hip to the idea til YOU chimed in! hahah. Insa-em, don't get it. 'splain yourself lucy.

I just remember being made fun of BIGTIME by the Irish guys in my dorm when I studied abroad for a year - when I admitted I had no idea what Snogging was. Just seems a bit MUCH.

Dij

Me thinks he stutters, didn't want us to catch that he almost said sight insane.

Then again, far be it from me to admit to knowing the mind of Satan.
