(Note: there's various locales and I'm looking at one review that states a principle city in the film is "nameless". I could be wrong--and I'll do some research--but, right now, I'll have to say I don't know)

War? No...at least not directly
Religion? No

Yes. And yes. (Note: "male lead" is not the first person listed in IMDb.com's credits who, as already implied, is also male. It appears, at least for this film, that IMDb is listing performers in order of appearance)

FYI: It was asked if the setting was England or Scotland. While I still stand by my original answer that there are various locales and that I don't believe it can be determined, I did notice that IMDb does list filming locations and--if one were to go by that--the answer would be no.
