Sorry dear - Bobby was well before me in the time table... he let me in. I saw Pauline leave with Rick in his car, but didn't see her again until after Bobby let me in... |

| | Margret: His own paperweight hum? That makes things interesting-it had to be one of us then. Someone who was at the office then came here.
I can't really recall seeing the paperweight when I was at the office, but chances are I'd have noticed if it was gone.

| | "This makes things very interesting," Tim says, still sitting on the floor and shaking his head. "I don't suppose this narrows it down any, but the paperweight was still on the desk at least partway through the party. I arrived at the party around 7 p.m.. I went up to the office about 20 to 25 minutes later. In fact, Pauline, I think it was right after you arrived and you and Rick went off somewhere. I went up to the office to throw a, um, note I'd received on the desk. I noticed the paperweight at the time because I was rather envious--Rick's desk was as neat as a pin with nothing on it except the paperweight. My desk was as cluttered as always. I then left the office and locked the door behind me. I saw you, Bobby, on the way back down. You looked like you were heading up to the office and changed your mind."
Tim scratches his head, contemplating for a moment. "Pauline, how did you get in the office? Did Rick give you his key? And what did you do with the key afterward?"

| | "Rick gave me the key. I gave it back to him, along with that disk on the way here. Hmmmmm...It's very interesting that you gave him a note. When I got to his office, to retrieve the disk there was the paperweight on a stack of letters, the disk box which was already open. It's contents were spread all over the disk. So, it wasn't neat when I got there...
What notw were you leaving Rick? I didn't see it. I was in his office after you were...why don't we also discuss why we were in Rick's office to begin with. I went up there to get the disk he sent me to get- which I still want to find."

| | "No, no, no, I didn't put the note on Rick's desk, I put it on my desk. Pauline, I share an office with Rick. It is as much my office as it is his. In fact, I'm there rather more often than he is."

| | {{Also out-of-character: I don't know! Perhaps we're all stunned into silence at the murder weapon--or maybe everyone else has gotten bumped off except for us. In which case, either you're the murderer or we have another case of And Then There Were None and should suspect that Rick is the murderer...  }}

Did you all hear that? More neighbors! Shut the window so we can focus on finding a killer, would you Tim?
:: sips whiskey ::
I never went into Tim and Rick's office inthe short time I was with Rick, so I've never seen the paperweight - I wouldn't have known it's significance. |

| | Tim stands up and walks over to the window, craning his neck out to see these neighbors people keep talking about. He wonders briefly if perhaps they should interview the neighbors and ask whether they saw anyone enter, but then he shrugs his shoulders and closes the window.
"Well, we've all gotten rather quiet. Almost as if some are afraid of tripping up their story if they speak up and say what they were doing. Funny how sobering the presence of a murder weapon can be."
"Let's recap: I went into the office to get rid of a note I'd received. Pauline went to get a disk. Who else was in there and how did you open the door that I locked? Pauline, I can't remember--did you say you locked the door after you left? Bobby, I saw you heading up in that direction, did you make a second trip there later?"

| | Bobby speaks up to Tim, "That was as close as I got to Rick's office tonight. In fact, I don't recall ever being in or around Ricks office. I've never seen that paperweight before." |

| | "Here's the thing, there must have been at least two other people other than Pauline and I in the office. Someone was in the office in between the time she and I were there--someone who spread all the disks out on the desk. Then, since Pauline says the paperweight was there when she left, someone must have come in after her. So at least two people were in that office who aren't admitting it." Tim raises an eyebrow and looks around the room questioningly. "I suppose it is a moot point. The murderer isn't going to admit he or she was in the office after Pauline and Pauline isn't going to admit it if she took the paperweight. Heck, neither would I, though at least in my case Pauline said she saw it after I was there."

| | "Accused?" Tim tilts his head, thinking for a moment, "No, not accused. Just not eliminated as a suspect yet. I don't think it is yet safe to eliminate any of us."

| | "Including you. All of this is just not geting us anywhere. I don't feel any closer to knowing who murdered my friend than I did when his body was discovered. I think we need to get some real cold hard facts out in the open. I honestly feel like I am the only one sharing- putting myself out there..."

| | Tim nods, "Including myself, Pauline. I'd like to offer up some proof that would eliminate me from the mix, but I'm not sure what that would be. I've given the details of where I was at every point tonight--at least so far as I can remember. I wasn't planning on needing an alibi."

| | Margret: we are all suspects, as far as an alibi every one of us can come up with a reasonable one-including the murderer. Perhaps it's time to approach this from a different direction-
Lets face it-Rick wasn't all sweetness and light. I'm willing to bet that each and every single one of us has some reason to at least dislike him for some reason. HOnestly, it sounds like our dear friend Rick was playing some games with some of us. Bobby and Fiona, Hal and Tim and even me.
the question is-which one of us was P*ssed enough to bash his head in?

| | "Not a bad idea, Mrs. Chun. I had cause to be annoyed with Rick occasionally--what person sharing space with another human doesn't? He could be a bit of a neat freak and, well, this probably annoyed your husband as much as it annoyed me, he really wasn't holding up his end of the work. We were supposed to be working on this project together for our dissertations and it has been awhile since he's done any real, useful work with the data.
"Had it gotten to the point where I felt murderous about it, I probably would have gone to Prof. Chun first and asked for some redress. How about you, Mrs. Chun? What sort of game was he playing with you?"

| | Clue Number 3 | | A crumpled note lies in the hall outside of the bathroom. It
is a lined scrap of notepad paper, which has hand-written in black felt-tip pen the following:
"Pay up or die!" |

| | Tim's eyes get really wide as he looks at the note.
He turns to Louis angrily and says, "So you gave him one too? I hope you gave him at least a little more warning to get the cash together."
Tim turns to the rest of the group, "I got the same sort of note earlier tonight, from him," he points at Louis. "It's the reason I went up to my office--to put the note on my desk and to get my checkbook."
