| | The Business of Murder
Introduction
This is an online party game, where each person at the
party plays a character in a murder mystery - halfway between
theatre improvisation and Clue. The idea is for you to arrive at the "party" playing the character you have been given. Then, in character, all of the people at the party will discover that a murder has been committed and that one of them is responsible. Each person knows only what his character knows, but between all of the characters, there is enough information to figure out who the murderer is. Be careful, however, because one or more of the people at the party may be the murderer(s), and will thus be working to lie or otherwise mislead the impromptu investigation.
The Cast
Louis Cagliostro................mrish
Harold Chun.....................fr_kurt
Margaret Chun...................mtbat
Robert Herrera..................Drmomentum
Timothy Kane....................Redlass
Richard Martin...................Alan Alda
Fiona McAllister................phoenixx
Pauline Thompson................chalathra
PMs have gone out giving each character an introduction to their part, and the necessary background information about their role in this game. In the next hour or so, I will also be sending out additional information. And now, let the party begin!
You are now standing in the apartment of Rick Martin, expecting nothing more than an informal social gathering and perhaps a movie on tape. However, shortly after the seven of you are gathered, Harold Chun headed to the bathroom, only to find the body of Rick Martin sprawled on the floor, unmistakably dead. The back of his head is bloody, and he is laying face down just inside the doorway, wearing the same clothes he had on at the party.
In a moment, I will begin sending each player a second PM, which gives additional information about the party, and the murder. This additional information will be important for game play.
Once again, if there are any questions, please PM me.

| | Clue Numero Uno -- The Body | | The body had a very hard blow to the back of the head, which bled significantly and probably cracked the skull. It also has a gash on the forehead, which seems to correspond to a smear of blood on the edge of the sink, beside the toilet.
He appears to be wearing the same clothes he was in the party,
and his zipper is unzipped. A thorough search of the body will reveal the following:
-> Keychain with apartment keys, mailbox keys, office keys, and various others.
-> Wallet, containing $185 cash, credit cards, ID's, and an old photo of Fiona McAllister.
-> Checkbook, with various utility and credit card checks, and several large checks to Louis Cagliostro, amounting to $3500 over the past four months.
-> Silver Fountain Pen
Players, you now know information on your character, as well as some of the other characters in this game. You also have your first clue. Now get to work, and solve this murder!!!
Communicate with other players in this thread, to ask questions, make accusations, or do whatever you need to do to figure out, who among the seven of you, is (are) the murderer(s).
Of couse, we hope there will be bystanders. For those of you playing along at home, feel free to follow all the information that comes out in this thread, and feel free to ask questions as well.

Don't look at me, the door was open when I got here.
Looks like Rick must have gotten someone pretty peeved. Now there's a shocker.

| | Tim Kane looks shocked as the news is announced. He slumps into a nearby chair, grabbing absently for a beer that isn't there in hopes of fortifying himself.
"Poor Rick," he mutters. "He always seemed so easy-going. Why would anyone want to kill him? There was money in his wallet? Could it have been a thief that was scared away with our arrival?"
Tim shakes his head again, then, as if suddenly realizing something, looks around the room suspiciously, searching each face carefully.
"Who saw him last?" he asks finally.

"Bimbo, hu?" :::winks right eye at Fiona::: "It takes one to know one. But as for your accusation, get over it. I simply drove him over here."
:::walks over to Louis::: "What would you know about the checks made out to you?"

Don't change the subject Pauline. I've known Rick for a long time, and he never mentioned you at all, but when you showed up tonight you and he obviously had enough of a history to make him act embarassed. What gives? |

"I'm not surprised at all that he hadn't mentioned me to you. He obviously didn't want to make you jealous. But Rick and I go way back. In fact, I bet I've known him longer than any of you. As far as him acting embarassed, I concur. He didn't seem embarassed at all."
:::takes a sip of wine:::
"I do find it odd that there are checks made out to you Louis. What on Earth that could be for makes no sense. Your last name sounds familiar. Something I've read about perhaps?"

Oh Pauline, he knew me better than to imagine I was the jealous type. People with a past are so much more interesting, don'tyou think?
:sits down on couch and tucks feet under a pillow:
The only jealous type I see in this room is our resident "poor loser", Bobby. |

| | Tim shakes his head as he listens to the sharp words and insinuations fly between the other guests. His eyes latch onto the wine Pauline is sipping. He stands up, heads out to the kitchen and pours a generous amount into a water glass, draining it as he returns to the living room with the bottle. "Does anyone else want some?" he asks. "I think we're all a little shaken by this horrible news."
He walks over to Fiona and offers to pour her some. "This must be a shock for you, dear. In fact, I was suprised to see you here. I didn't know the two of you remained on good terms. Do you want some wine?"

I'm sticking to my whisky, thanks.
::Picks up highball glass filled with Tullymore Dew, neat, and takes a sip, then cradling the glass in her hands::
Your awfully free with the endearments tonight Tim. I don't think you know me well enough to call me dear, and you certainly didn't know your officemate Rick well enough to be this shaken up.
::Takes another sip of whisky, turning the glass in the light and peering at the amber liquid before cradling it in her hands again::
In fact, I've been wondering what got you invited to this little soiree...

"Fiona, what were the terms you and Rick were on?"

| | Tim stutters slightly, "S-sorry, bad habit of mine. All very passe, calling women dear, isn't it?" He walks over to Pauline and refills her glass. He then pours himself some more wine.
"Fiona, I'll admit--I haven't nearly the blase manner you seem to have. Murder shakes me up, especially when it strikes so close to home. I'm rather surprised, especially if you two were patching it up that you're so cold when his dead body is lying above us."
Tim sits down again, "Poor Rick." He then cringes as he suddenly realizes he's going to have to run all that data on his own now. He glances over at his professor then decides this is a bad time to bring up whether there are any other potential candidates interested in Option Pricing.

"Shouldn't somebody be calling the police, looking for a murder weapon or something?"

| | Bobby spits out an airless chuckle as he turns to the fridge and noisily rummages for a beer. "Poor loser."
Before the bottlecap hits the floor he is taking an uncerimonious pull on the longneck.
"Yeah, I suppose I do know something about losing. Tough to win when you're playing with a cheater."
Another swig drains the bottle by half. Bobby looks away from Fiona, begins to say something else, presses his lips together, then clucks his tongue.
"Then again, Fiona, I suppose it's even worse to be beaten at your own game."

| | Tim's left eyebrow raises as Fiona calls Mrs. Chun "dear" and the greeting is returned. "Must be a chick thing," he mutters.
He turns back to Pauline, "Yes, yes, I suppose someone should call the police, though I'm not sure we should be messing with the crime scene anymore than we already have. Who went through his pockets?" Tim waves a hand at the contents of Rick's pockets that are spread out on the coffee table.
