| | Margaret's post reminded me of this month's "RD Challenge" in the back of Reader's Digest. No fair playing if you've already peeked!
It's called a "doublet" invented in 1878 by Lewis Carroll. You take two words that are related in some way. Change the first word, one letter at a time (like in Margaret's game) so that it eventually ends up being the second word. Here's an example:
PIG ---> STY
PIG - WIG - WAG - WAY - SAY - STY
Got it? Okay, here is your first doublet:
HEAD ---> TAIL

| | How about this?
HEAD--HEAL--HEIL--HAIL--TAIL
Although I have a feeling "HEIL" will not be allowed!! |

| | Goo try; you started out right. I forgot to mention, each word does have to be a real word in its own right.
I'm sure there is more than one solution, but you did start off right for the answer that I have in front of me.

| | I used to play these in the puzzle magazines all the time! I loved them. They were a little harder there though because they specified the number of words you needed to use to get from A to B.
SOUP
SOAP
SOAR
BOAR
BOAS
BOTS
BUTS
NUTS |

| | I am skeptical that there is a solution for this puzzle, mainly because I can't think of a word that has one letter different from "autumn." True, I am not the most literate member of the board, so I may have missed something.
Assuming that you have a solution Fr. Kurt, I am extremely impressed! (I was already impressed with your Winter --> Summer)
