| | Anyone here like logic puzzles?
I've been writing logic puzzles to include in some student workbooks. Anyone here want to take a crack at them? (I've been entertaining--or torturing--my co-workers with them this week, so they've had a little playtesting.)
They're all hotel related. I'm not sure the grids will transfer, but I'll give it a try.

| | Laundry Attendant Logic Puzzle | | Five laundry attendants (Aaron, Bella, Carl, Dana, and Edward) are each working with a different type of linen (aprons, napkins, sheets, towels, and washcloths) at a different stage of the laundry cycle (sort, wash, dry, fold, and store). Using the clues below, determine who is working with each item and in what stage. (Bella and Dana are female, the other attendants are male.) - Aaron is either working with aprons or sorting. The washcloths are in the dryer and are being attended by a female attendant.
- The sheets (which are not being attended by Carl) are either being stored or folded.
- Bella, Dana, and Edward are working with washcloths, napkins, and sheets (in some order). Aaron and Carl are storing and sorting (in some order).
- Dana is not folding or washing. Aaron is working with towels.
- Bella is washing an item. Edward is not working with napkins.

| | Public Space Cleaner Logic | | Felix, a public space cleaner, was assigned a different "daily special" (repairing carpet, removing heel marks, water-extracting a carpet, waxing a floor, and repairing wallpaper) each day last week (Felix works Monday through Friday). Each daily special was performed in a different room (Exercise room, employee breakroom, 2nd floor guestroom corridor, lobby, public bathroom). From the clues below, deduce which daily special he did on each day and in which room. - Felix did not wax floors on the day before or the day after he worked in the exercise room.
- Felix repaired wallpaper in the bathrooms later in the week than when he cleaned carpets with water extraction (which wasn't done in the lobby or the exercise room).
- The five tasks are the carpet repair, the one done in the employee break room, the task performed on Monday, the wax job, and the wallpaper repair job.
- Felix removed heel marks from a floor the day after he worked in the lobby (which he did at some point later than when he repaired carpets).
- Felix removed heel marks on Friday.
(Nope, the charts won't copy. Sorry. You'll have to make your own grids.)

| | The chief engineer is frustrated with the pile of complaints he’s received today. It seems each one of his maintenance workers (Sonia, Vanya, Boris, Catherine, and Ludwig) left a different tool (an awl, drill, hacksaw, screwdriver, and wrench) in a different guestroom (101, 214, 369, 422, and 554) when they were doing repairs today. He sent each of them to retrieve their tools and apologize to the guests. Each room was on a floor designated by the first number in the room number (in other words, guestroom 101 is on the first floor, 214 is on the second floor, etc.) Sonia and Catherine are women; Vanya, Boris, and Ludwig are men. From the clues below, determine which tool was left in which room by which maintenance worker. - Boris left a tool (which wasn’t the hacksaw) in a higher floor than the room where the drill was left (which wasn’t retrieved by a woman).
- The screwdriver and the awl was retrieved by Ludwig and from room 214, in some order.
- The three men are the one who retrieved the awl, the one who went to room 554, and the one who went to room 101.
- Ludwig retrieved a tool on a higher floor than the one where Vanya left the drill, but a lower floor than at least one other person.
- The tool Catherine retrieved was on a higher floor than the one Sonia retrieved and a lower one than the one where the wrench was left.
- Neither Sonia nor Boris entered room 369 (which was not the room with the awl).

| | Restaurant Server Logic Puzzle | | Miranda was getting ready to pick up the Zhent family’s meal when the point-of-sale service crashed. Fortunately, Miranda has an excellent memory and was able to remember which guest had which drink and which entrée, thus earning her a generous tip when the Zhent family got ready to leave. Using the clues below, can you determine which family member received which drink and which entrée? (Kelly is female, Ben is male.) - Neither parent ordered pork chops or milk. None of the children ordered grilled cheese or hot chocolate.
- The person who drank the diet soda was male. The person who drank the soda was female.
- The soda and spaghetti were ordered by the same person.
- The five meals were Mr. Zhent’s, the one with lemonade, Kelly’s, the steak dinner, and the cheeseburger.
- Ms. Zhent did not drink lemonade or eat spaghetti.
- Christine did not have steak or milk (which were not served together).

| | Banquet Setup Logic Puzzle | | Drusilla, the banquet manager, is preparing Banquet Event Orders for the weekend (Thursday through Sunday). She’s determining which banquet setup employee (Gus, Merrill, Silas, and Tara) will be working each room (Green, Maroon, Witherspoon, and Reese) setting up each type of function, on each day. No two banquet setup employees are working the same day and no event is in the same room. - Silas (who did not work in the Green Room) asked for Saturday and Sunday off and Drusilla agreed. Merrill is working the day after Tara, who is working the day after the reception.
- The dance floor (which is not being set up by Tara) needs to be set up in one of the rooms named with a color. The Saturday event is in either the Reese Room or the Green Room.
- The buffet was set at some point before the event in the Maroon Room. The Green Room event was the day before the event in the Reese Room (which was not the one Merrill worked).
- The four events are the Green room, the meeting break, the one on Thursday, and the one Merrill worked.
- Gus (who is not working on either Saturday or Sunday) is not setting up either the dance floor or the meeting room.

| Dana is a male or female name. Perhaps a more gender-specific name? |

| | OK. I had to rewrite the Laundry worker one and the Banquet set up ones. I'll go replace those two.
